big block in a fox

i'm starting to gather some info and putting together a parts list to start my build. what is needed to put a big block in a foxbody? its a 93 hatch and i'm planning on putting a tubular k-member in it (not sure on what brand though).

Just wondering if there is a specific k-member that i need to get or make custom mounts for the motor to fit the k member?

they sell motor mounts. the k members the same any 1 u want to use. headers they sell hooker,kooks,accufab, or u can get custom headers.

There is a guy sellling big block motor mounts and headers local of me, he's had them on craigslist for at least a couple months

jegs or summit sells it all
Ford Racing #397-M-6038-A460 is the 1 i had

headers here
Exhaust

if u use 175 pound springs if u have after market heads

also they sell k member spacers so u can use a stock hood

That sounds like a great project. Wall to wall motor. I think you may have to go with manual brakes. I think if you look up holcomb motorsports they used to sell swap kits for 351 and 460 into a fox.

on accufabs website it only show headers for a 460 and i'll be using a 429, will they still bolt up to the 429 or will i have to find something different?

i have not done a 429 but the 429 is .022 shorter block than the 460 so it not a big deal

ok thanks, definitely going to be doing a lot of research before i start buying stuff. want to make sure the bigblock is the way i wanna go which i'm quite certain it is.

the idea of a big block looks cool on paper but with the ability to have a 427 or even 466 cube SBF i just dont see the reason anyone would want to put all that extra weight on the front end.

it will only be as good as the parts going into it. I've seen guys putting in 460's or similar in their foxes just to find out they aren't as fast as they thought they would be. Then have a tough time selling them.

Because for the same $$ it takes to build a 466 SBF, you'd have a 557" BB..
Weight isn't that big of a deal, 260LBS more.. less with aluminum heads. BTW, the stock 4290/460 block is good to around 800 HP

260 isnt that much?! thats like driving around with a 2.3 litre under the hood on top of your motor. and its in the worst spot right on the nose, good luck getting the car to transfer any weight. Ive got a friend with a 460/C4.9inch. stock heads/bottom end with spray, he blows em up all the time and it runs low 12's on motor and low 11's on a 150 shot. He has had issues FOREVER with getting the car to hook at all.

The 460 being good to 800 isn't much of an accomplishment when the 351w goes 700 and with nearly 300 less pounds. There's a kid where I live with a 460 in a 71 mustang, i outran him in a '94 chevy 1500 truck haha.

u can do it with a sbf but i just wanted something different than all other mustangs. i had a A block,A heads,billet crank,billet rods,danny b belt drive and i had alot of money in that motor u can do it alot easier with a 460 than a 429 because alot of parts are going to have to be custom because of the deck hieght.
i started off as a 547 with a 101 mm turbo but im going back to a 427 that will run high to mid 9s on motor

if i do the big block, it will be top notch. definitely not going to cut any corners. right now i have a 429 block and a 302 roller block. i thought about stroking the 302 out to a 331 or 347 and putting some spray on it but i think i would really rather go big block with some either some flat top or domed pistons and a good set of heads and cam. i know either way i'm going to be spending a good chunk of change which is why this won't be getting done over night. its also another reason i'm on here getting all the info i can before i make a decision. My goal would be to eventually be to run mid to low 9's with the car. but i have also never built a vehicle to that caliber, which is another reason i'm trying to find out all i can. the motor will be carbed and the only power adder i want to use is spray.

Make sure you look at the tech side of running 9's, ALOT more safety equipment needed than for a 10 sec car. Things like a parachute, window net, certified cage and a competition license are just a few of the things needed. Cost adds up quick unless you can do the welding etc yourself.

As for making a BB fox hook.. PLENTY of people have done it...

that stuff will all come in time. not planning on building this thing overnight. plus i can always slow the car down and not run nitrous until i get the proper safety stuff.
