Big Fuel Pump Ok To Run On Stock 5.0?

The low pressure 190s tend to internally by-pass at or near 60 psi. Some a little more, some a little less. So boosted apps, apps using an FMU or really large injectors (where fuel pressure builds in the line before even getting the rails), they can be unpredictable.


Ohh so basically lets say if you have a 190 that normally would push a 24 lb injector properly at 39 PSI, and you try to push a 42 at like 60 PSI the pump could internally bypass and then cause problems. Is that what you're saying or is my thought process completely wrong? Lol
 
If I ever do run boost I would want a bigger pump anyways just to be safe so we're good!

What exactly is it about the low pressure 190's that's bad for boost?

I've not heard about problems on N/A cars unless it was from someone who added something like a Vortech kit or something. That's the ONE pump that's pretty common that causes things to go "BOOM".

Nope... that's right. Additionally, when running large injectors that flow a lot more fuel, the back pressure spike when a injector shuts off has a small potential to cause the pump to begin bypassing. The cycle starts over again when the pump is shut-down and restarted.

Not sure what the logic was in designing the pump that way... safety feature? :shrug:

Also... as folks install more go-fast goodies, they like to add fuel pressure to eek more out of their injectors. Sucks when they've discovered that they hit that wall under boost or nitrous. :(

If I ever do boost my car, I would definitely stray away from FMU's and doing high fuel pressure's at the regulator lol.

But, I don't even know what my car is gonna be like all said and done on the street with just the HCI set up so I don't even need to be looking at superchargers right now lol

I don't think so. He needs to know too. There was an article about it in one of the Mustang Mags a few years ago. I discovered initially, the hard way. I'm glad I decides to check it. I was told that my little 19lb injectors might see 90 psi. So I started the car and closed off the return to see if the pump would even handle it. It didn't. :hide: Could have been ugly.

90!? Omfg duty cycle on 19's with 90 PSI had to be like 100%
