I keep seeing early Mustangs in magazines with very big tires on the back. I am not talking pro street, but pro touring. Is anyone on this site running big radials on back, or have links to web sites that show build ups?
The biggest I have been able to squeeze under there is a 245/50 x 15 radial. My fender lips are gone and the car is lowered about 3 inches. It is very tight up front in the fender well next to the leaf spring.
A larger bias ply would work because the sidewall does not flex as much as a radial but the Hoosier bias ply is very expensive and I have not gone there yet.
most of the cars you see with the huge meats are 69/70, i have a 275/50-15 on the back of mine and i have enough room for a 295/50-15 pretty easily with a differnt offset wheel, or if i ever get it it installed my versailles rearend is just enough narrower thn the stock rear i can fit them with no problems and keep my same wheels
Mustangs & Fords has a 65 with 335s and a 69 with 315s. These are tucked all the way into the quarters. My 67 has some room but it is time to buy wheels and looking at up sizing. I've seen 28x10.5 slicks on a 68, but did not pay close attention to it since I had no mustang at the time.
the 65 was tubbed. the 69 supposedly had a lot of work done to fit the wheels, but supposedly didn't even need mini tubs. i know a 275/40-17 will fit on a 67/68. there is a guy here that goes by BAD67FUN that has a 275/40-17 on the back of his 68 fastback. if he doesn't pop in here in a little while try doing a search for his username and shoot him a pm
