biggest tires on 17x8 and 17x9

found a set of cobra reps. on ebay they come
17x8 and 17x9
whats the biggest STREET tires i can put on the back
would like to little to no work to the wheel welds
although if i have to oh well

I wouldn't use anything larger than 255/40's on the 8's. 275/40s on the 9's.

Any larger than that and the tires will bulge over the wheel edges and will result in sloppy handling.

With the 9's and 275/40s on the rear you'll need to roll fender lips on a Fox.

94-95 cobras came with 255/45/17 onto their 8" wheels

03/04 cobras came with 275/40/17 on their 9" wide wheels


Thats what I would stick with although I have frequently seen guys put 275/40/17 on 17x8 wheels. It bulges and does allow the sidewalk to slightly roll over on itself.
