My searches did not yield any results on this topic. I was paging thru my Summit catalog and I noticed there is a $100 difference in price on the cat back systems between the aluminized and the stainless tips. I also noticed that Bassani has the same type of price difference.

Here's my thought. I'm thinking about saving the money and buying the cheaper pipes...... and then put a really good rust inhibitter primer down.. then a flat black paint job on the pipes.

I think it will blend in rather nicely.

Anybody have any pictures of this being done??

Yes, this on a LX

thanks for your time!!

Actually now that you mention it i think there is a company that makes a flat black cat back. Personally i think that would look really good if the car was the right color!

i think it would look good depending on if it was cleanly done. I have painted my snowmobile pipes with hi temp flat black and i think they look good. I think the black gives it a racey type look.

The color on the car is Emerald Green.. with matching trim trim (not black).

I just think there is enough black on the car to match up well with the black pipes.

I could go another step further and black the factory wheels as well. MAYBE.

I'm pretty sure did or do sell one of their kits in all black with chrome tips. Also if you're on a budget and WANT chrome tips, theirs are fairly cheap and look awesome.

As for the black, a buddy of mine had a set that were chrome but had started rusting, so he sand blasted them and just spray painted them black....looked pretty good for what it was, might look better on a really clean black car.

Sorry but I think that would look like crap.

Maybe it's just not my taste. I really like the polished aluminum pipes out the back of a clean LX - and Deep Emerald Green is such a beautiful color (I'm on my second one). On an LX, the pipes are visible from the back tire out when looked at from profile. I think the polished aluminum is just the right balance - not too "blingy" like chrome, and just enough to stand out. Kind of a part of the character of the car. Maybe with a different lower valance like from a 93 Cobra which blocks most of them....

It might work if you did the rims black, too....but I don't like that look even more.

You were just ready to spend $400 on hi-flow cats – why not just get the polished aluminum cat backs instead of trying to cut corners here?

I snapped a few pics before I put her to bed last night (possibly for the winter) and I'll bring them up in paintshop to fill in with black to get an idea.

Sometimes I guess it just depends on what way the wind is blowing....

Does the stainless have a distinct advantage over the aluminized pipes?

I have until spring to decide... we'll see how my stash looks then. If money wasn't and object I'd buy the stainless Bassani cat back stuff. But dang it's steep compared to the cost of an American Thunder Flowmaster set.

Who's got the best prices nowadays on this stuff? I've been so out of the loop on the 5.0 stuff these past few years.

I've been thinking about doing mine. Flat black tails filled with white from race gas

S&B has flat black tails...looks alright

Yes he does.
