Blah...

The other thing that is missing here is that I really don't like sport compaqs. Period. I think most of them are ugly, I hate the sounds that come out of them and they will never be considered real muscle cars because their potential is always less on 4 cyl....but hey if you like the sound of a dying weed wacker...I say go buy one.

I don't have anything against import cars. It's the owners I usually can't stand.
Just the other day, I told my friend that there are several things I will never be in life: 1) is a child molester & 2) is a Honda owner.
3-series BMW owners are another group that I usually can't stand. Unless it's an M3 or a new TT, they're probably slow, but that doesn't stop them from blowing by you doing 100mph. 3-series owners are people who can't accept the fact that they can't afford a real Bimmer. The new 3-series might be changing my opinion though.

That said, I hate Hondas and Toyotas with a passion, but I like Nissans. It just doesn't make financial sense to me to mod an import. Everything is way more expensive than our cars. I wouldn't mind a nice 240sx, but the asking prices for the cars alone are ridiculous compared to ours, and stock for stock we own. Not to mention mod for mod, and the prices are still cheaper for us.

I only have $6,000 into my car; that includes, purchase, repairs, and mods. My car gets way more attention in traffic than a Civic with twice as much into it(well positive attention anyways). I also don't street race, because I'm the kind of person that gets caught everytime I do something I'm not supposed to.

those 4 banger imports have 10 to 12 years of advance technology ahead of our cars. plus the weight to power ratio on their side.

thats like comparing our cars to how much faster they are to any of the import sport cars from like 83-85.

you need a healthy dose of some serious aftermarket heads with a deadly cam. and up dose of nos that you have been giving your car you should be fine. lol

btw would you be up for island this friday there a real good chance of me going, plus the weather is suppose to great that day?

I don't think the year it was made or "technology" has anything to do with it. My STOCK 95 GT got owned by a 10 year older Buick Grand National. No special technology with the Buick, just raw power from that turbo.

That's all these newer "Sport Compacts" are doing to get the power, they slap on a turbo and call it a day. Not really a technological advantage on our cars. It's all about power, and today they're getting alot more of it out of these little 4 bangers. Also, look back at the turbo 4's that came in Mustangs. Sure they didn't have much power stock, but there's guys that build them to be wicked fast!!

I'm swinging from both sides of the fence.....

The time in my sig for my laser is even outdated, the car should be dipping into the 12.1x @ 110+ right now, been pissing with the logger and actually tuning my management out.

Vehicle is a 1992 Plymouth Laser RD AWD, my 5 purchased and 4th total (sold it once and bought it back) DSM; this being an Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, or Plymouth Laser from 1989-1994. This vehicle (in certain trim) stock is AWD and turbocharged.

stock 15.1 -14.9 cars, very much like the mustangs. (I feel thats pretty honest sans everyones "I know an exception" )

Have a die grinder and a set of hand tools? You do? I've gone mid 13's for under $40....in a $900 car.

As with anything, you have 3 choices: Fast, Cheap, Reliable...... pick 2.

I've broken all there is to break over the years. I've 'decent' $ into my laser, prolly around an honest 5k mod worth, yes, all self installed. I don't understand how you can have a shop build a car unless you have DEEEEEEP pockets.

I've upgraded the turbo, the fuel, exhaust, but also have spend the coin on a built tranny and nice driveline/suspension.

Hands down, my mustang has been more $ to go as fast in every aspect. Bottle aside...cause once you run of spray to stay next to me...well....have fun.

My laser, on racegas should be able to see high 11s with a set of cams. All ive done has been bolt ons on a 164k bottom end, with 'ok' compression, stock head....etc.

I get 30mpg on a trip. I pull 1.72 60's on streetires, I've dailed it for 2 yrs.

From a dig on the street, I hope you have your $hit together. It turns too.

That being said, I LOVE my mustang. Nothing can replace the sound, the looks, and the fun of RWD. It's a riot.

On the BOTTLE, with my new setup, it will piss on the laser, on slicks, on vht.

On the motor it should be a good run on slicks. I'll have spent a bit more $, but as stated, thats ALL MOTOR.

I say give respect where respect is due. I've had turbo FWD, turbo RWD (Supra and VERY VERY fun), and all motor RWD cars.

I like RWD the best, but AWD is like constant slicks and handles like its on rails.

FWD is stupid. I hate it :D

My $.02 worth :D

yeah to me its what i like and thats mustangs im not about whos the fastest car on the block i prefer style and we have that so im happy..

There's always going to be somebody faster than you. As long as you enjoy the car, that's all that matters. I mean how fast do you need to go and where are you going to go that fast unless it's at the strip? Be safe!

The imports being lighter is also a myth in several cases. One example =The sti is withing 50# + or - the mustang.

I had a miata RWD yes, I bought for a third car (don't laugh until you drive one, seriously...or autocross it). Although I did always say it was my girlfriends car.

I turbo'd it and it pulled easily as hard as the stang (this one was 2080#..wet). Then I threw on the intercooler and a few other items and blew maro's away on the beltway (closed course beltway). It was fun toying with people. Hit 4th...bye bye..anyone. And there was no mistake that they were getting blown away. The ywould always go WAAAAAAY back into the side view mirrirs ,lol. Then they would try again because they couldnt believe their eyes....waaaay back...again...and then they would try a 3rd time caues they still couldnt believe it... Incredible pull... That being said, I sold all the parts and bought the stang. ;)

Hanky....got to give you credit for standing up for your "ricer"......:rlaugh: I like the way you composed your thoughts.......
I have always loved Mustangs....and I've owned about every major named car...lol even if they were beaters......I like a lot of the imports....if someone has put the wrench time in.......and put together a "nice" car......they get my respect....those Talons out the box were quick...I just can't stand some of the things people do to the imports....and Stangs as well...that we refer to as "ricer".......
I will finish with my outlook........it is a hobby for me......yeah ....I know there is always A LOT of cars faster than I will ever be.......but I have a reverance for the hardworking owner...who turns his own wrench.....takes a 15 second car and takes it into the 12's, or 11's..............OVER a person who writes the check for the fast car.....and doesn't even attempt to wrench on it.......and talks smack about how fast it is.........YOU didn't make it fast........:rlaugh:
