i guess i had it coming with the blower on my combo with no tune.

i was at the track today and on my last pass i seem to have blown a HG i'm pretty sure. car sorta had that miss sound but it wasnt missing at all. i didnt realize it was the HG i didnt check the oil until i drove home and found some milky goodness in the oil ;)

so i have a good winter project and a GREAT TIME TO UPGRADE, thing is i drove home 50 miles with water in my oil. car got hot a was boiling in the overflow bottle.

my coolant is MOSTLY water not much antifreeze in it at all now.

so do you think i need to replace the bearings?? the car ran fine and whatnot. i will just pull the heads and see how it all looks.

the thumpers and b-cam combo have worked GREAT but now is a great time to make more power.

i was thinking afr 185s and custom cam along with a custom fabricated manifold i plan to make myself.

well the shortblock is 1.5 years old and has like 20k on it. since i rebuilt it. i'll just see how it all looks and probably run it for a while. if the bearings go bad early, no biggie its not anything i havent done before.

funny thing is alot of people get pissed when something like this happens. for me i actually ENJOY it happening, doesnt bother me at all, it gives me a reason to wrench on the car, i LOVE to just work on the car.

I didnt see this thread until after i responded to you dragstrip video thread.

I was not all that surprised to hear of the HG failure either. Thats what happens with moderate amounts of boost and no tune. Im sure the air temps were a little cooler this time out???

Oh well...its a dam good reason to wrench on the car. Im sure you will have it back out next year going 11's. good luck man

it wasnt too cool actually, maybe 55-60 degrees

and YES i will be investing in tuning before i run the car again! i planned to get a tweecer this winter and tune the car. the car just couldnt make it lol oh well

i'll get some good HGs and maybe get bigger valves or find a deal on some alum heads or something. then try and tune it with the tweecer and hope for the best!

Just to let you know patriot makes a pretty nice set of alum sbf heads now. Made a hair over 300 rwhp with some cam and intake in one of the mags afew months back. Sorry for the crappy info, horrible memory! Anyways, they seem like a steal at $899. Think the springs were even good for a decent amount of lift, wouldnt hurt checking them out. What were you running for headgaskets? Its usually a better idea to have one that has some give rather then destroy a engine. Invest in some studs too! Your going to love h/c/i and boost :D

my friends used to think i was CRAZY when i would break something at the track and get out laughing about it. even if it means some down time, breaking **** just means its time to make an improvement:nice:

Ya know, it really sucks, but I must admit I couldn't help but laugh a little reading this. We weren't telling you to get a tune in every single one of your threads just for fun! Not only would it have held together, but it would have been in the 11s a long time ago. Sounds like you are going to upgrade quite nicely though! Skip the 11s and shoot for 10s in the springtime haha. Those Patriot heads that Bentley talked about seem pretty impressive for $900. They're 185s I believe, assembled with stainless valves and springs good for .600" lift, and flow comparable to Twisted Wedges. It's not a no name company either in case you haven't heard of them. They're big into ls1's and mod motors. Spend under $200 on an F cam, which is an awesome boost cam, build your box intake, and you will have a nasty low budget setup. Can't wait to see your fabbed intake too, you do some nice fab work!

i've checked out the patriot heads before. this week i hope to tear down the engine and get the heads off.

i'll have to budget some money for mods this winter. so maybe a head and cam upgrade with a custom intake. and new tires and a tweecer for tuning. once i get it all lined out i would like to hit 120 mph at the traps, that seems like a reasonable goal to hit. its also tempting to keep running the thumpers and get some bigger valves to put in it, it would be cool to see how fast i can get with stock heads.

turns out i had a small HG leak. but i had a huge intake leak, number 5 cyl was sucking water from the water port and the whole intake port and combustion chamber and piston is all rusted lol. i also bent the intake pushrod on cyl 2.

so i have it all apart so now i need to figure out what sort of upgrades i will get. i am getting an F cam, cant decide to stay with my thumpers for now, i can also get a good deal on some stock gt40p heads. i could get them worked over and have a nice head.
