do you have a bov on your setup? If so, is it loud?

Thanks!

Do you mean a bypass valve?

The mini race would work fine for a BPV or a BOV

I have a blow off valve with a blow through MAF....I think I am missing a piece of tubing off my BOV causing all this noise...

are you venting to the atmosphere or back into your intake? if your going right to the outside air it will be louder. you can do it that way if you have a blow through maf. us with a draw through must send it back into the intake pipe because it's already been measured by the maf. again if you want a good bov....get a mini race and route it back into the intake pipe for quieter operation.

I think you nailed it...I am going to the atmosphere....I didn't have the tubing going to the intake...

I do have a blow through system...but want it as quiet as possible...sounds obnoxious...

Where exactly does it connect on the intake?

Thanks!

i believe with your blow through set up your bov is before the maf....if so just make it go right back into the power pipe. i am not that familiar with blow through setups but that should be fine. if the air isnt being measured yet it doesnt really matter where you put it as long as it's before the maf.

Well you could just switch to a draw through MAF. You would have to move the MAF down closer to the filter and then all you would have to do is vent it back into the boost pipe/intake pipe. You would have to get a tune to. There would basically be no noise after that.

Here is a pic of mine. The big hose closest to the supercharger is coneected to my BPV which is hidden upside down.

Thanks again..

doing that should make it quieter than having it go to the atmosphere?

Thanks,

Eric

You will basically hear nothing at all. You might have a woshing sound if you get into high boost and let off but you wont hear any thing when you shift or if you get into low boost and let off.

Make sure when you drill the hole into the intake its about 1.5" in diameter. You want to have a big enough hole so air wont get backed up and cause surging or blow pipes off. I don't know how many times I blew my intake pipe off when it was 1". LOL

i cant believe no one has mentioned this yet..

is the blow off valve you are using adjustable? if it is it could be out of adjustment. and is your blow off valve referenced above or below the throttle body blade?

The one in the video makes a "hissing" sound...mine sounds more of a clicking sound..

Here is a pic of the BOV on the previous owner's car...as mentioned..mine does not have this tubing on it...yet:

also...right now I just have a filter on the front of the blower...right off it...can I use any type of powerpipe on here?

Thanks!

thats the reason i asked if your is adjustable and where you have the vac line coming from.

if its before the TB its adding pressure and forcing the BOV closed and when the TB is closed the air pressure inside is forcing the BOV open and the pressure from the line will try to keep it closed and will result in it fluttering back and forth and causing the clicking sound.

edit: i just saw you dont have the line connected. that means its not working properly. the pressure inside is forcing it open.
the reason his is making a hissing sound is because its functioning properly and venting air. yours is just being forced open and slamming shut. hook the line up on a vac source after the throttle body.

Hey BK..

I have been researching this all night and am now pissed at my installer for not knowing this..

Could not having this hose currently on there cause:

erroneous rich/lean situations out of nowhere when increasing throttle?

hanging rpms at idle and a subsequent quick dropping causing the car to stall?

it seems that most people put a "y" type fitting on the front of the air plenum right after the TB...does this sound about right?

Thanks!

yes, yes and yes

it can cause a rich situation because the BOV is letting metered air go while the throttle is open.

and if it builds enough pressure at idle to force the BOV open it could cause it to richen out to the point of stalling but im kinda skeptical about that. the hanging rpm is more than likely cause by a vac leak make sure there was no line on the BOV that maybe fell off. that would cause most of the problems you are having.

and yes about the T or Y fitting. as long as its on the intake side of the throttle body you should be good. as it recieves vacuum after the throttle is closed.

BK..

One other question...by BOV is before the MAF...so the air that is being let go is not being read by the MAF...I have a blow thru setup...

Can this still cause these problems?

Thanks!
