i am putting a 5.0 engine in my 65 coupe with a t5 . I am thinking about buying a vortech superchager for my system. The only thing that i am unsure of is what type of induction to run, I know that efi will be more efficient and all that but will there be any power difference between efi + blower or carb + carb hat + blower. The only reason i ask is because there is about 1500 dollars difference between the efi and carb stuff

www.fordmuscle.com has an article about a supercharger that they are attaching to a carb. Interesting reading.

Paxtonsuperchargers.com also has a kit for carbed engines in early model mustangs. The polished kit costs $2800. You can see on their site what all is included. Their listed price is 3195....but you can get them cheaper.

It depends on how much power to intend to make, regarding the induction system.
With a 5.0 block, I would not suggest that you go for 600 RWHP, as the block will be stressed to the point of unreliability. Also, second gear in a standard T5, or even a T5Z, will not last that long with alot of power. Anyway,.....
I'm running a blow-through system with a bonnet, and one of the issues I come across is equal fuel distribution. With a blow-through system, or any wet flow, the intake manifold design seams much more critical. Single planes seem to equal the cylinders more than dual planes.
Anyway, no reason for a novel......
IMO, you will realize no difference between efi and blow-through, unless you intend to run this machine to the limit of competition.
P.S. the carb stuff is easy.

Another approach

I am currently assembling my Kenne Bell S/C motor for my '66 'vert; using fuel injection from a 5.0. My original plan was a motor and tranny from a late model 'stang, but as the power goals increased, I realized that the T5z I had purchased (in an '89 donor car) wouldn't handle it...and needed more head flow...and then found a great deal on a 331 stroker in sportsman block...you get the idea. As it turns out, I will end up using virtually NOTHING but the computer (with altered outputs via a TwEECer system) in this car. So all of those parts will go in my '65 2+2.

During all of this, I did a lot of looking around on ebay. My conclusion: you could (with some care!) convert a classic to a fuel injected motor at a fairly reasonable cost, and then, you are OPTIMALLY set up to run a boosted application. My decision there was the Kenne Bell...you can find a lot of good info on the power adder board about these beasts.

Even a junkyard could likely yield everything needed for a 350hp EFI 289 for a reasonable amount of $$$.

I was under the impression that Vortech didnt had a carb kit for the SBF... unless you count the Paxton 1001839 or 1001840 kits... since Vortech owns Paxton... then I guess they do!

I don't think they do.
Procharger has a kit for a small block chevy, with a crank pulley, and I usually make a mounting bracket with a manually adjustable idler pulley, rather than buy their $270 bracket. Ducting is non-specific for year and model, and bonnets can be sourced separately.

Heres my .02.. I have friends that run both.. Most of the guys I hang out with are fox body guys..

1. Carbs need a ton of tuning especially with blow through carbs. Vortec does not make a blow throughs setup for SBF to my knowledge but.. YOu can by a blower hat through www.superchargersonline.com and do a custom setup. To my knowledge u have to use a holley style carb.. which always require tinkering.. I dont think you can use an edelbrock or carter on a blowthrough s/c system

2. Efi superchargers are easier to tune..I personally and saving up money to do an Efi swap then going to do a Vortec S trim blower set up on mine.
