ok ive had mustangs since i was 16 i know wat to look for when buying one
i just bought a 94 5.0 5 speed yesturday i test drove it everything was fine..but now when i start i get big cloud of smoke for a few seconds smells like burnt oil and another time while i was driveing i looked out the rear window and i realized i was leaveing a smoke screen behind me its only done that once the antifreeze is brown too...i hope its not a head gasket cuz i just exhasted my bank account to buy this stang.because i was walking and riding my bicycle everywhere.i could do the gasket myself if i had the tools and the ability to finish it in one day....any suggestions?

You don't necessarily have a blown head gasket. You could have a worn out motor. Look at your engine oil by pulling the dipstick. If it has a chocolate milky fungu on the stick, then maybe you have a blown head gasket.

If your engine oil looks normal (even if it's dirty, and needs changing) then I'd say you got a problem like bad seals/guides in the heads.
Smoking on start up, and smoking on deceleration is a pretty good indication of that. How many miles on the engine, does it have an automatic transmission?

Actually you'd prefer having a blown head gasket since it's just time plus $40 for headgaskets. However it could be the piston rings (motor) shot like Mike said. Then you'd be looking at a new block. You can pick up an Explorer motor for couple hundred and swap that over. Or just buy a new block and swap it with the worn one.

its actually much more then that

2 head gaskets from fel pro- 65-70 bucks
intake gasket set- 12 bucks
exhaust manifold gaskets-15
felpro head bolts-20 bucks
valve cover gaskets- 12 for cork 31 for rubber
plus you have things like coolant
thermostat and gasket
oil change or 2 to flush everything out of the system
and anything else you do while your in there.

if you do it on the cheap your looking around 200 bucks
