blue alarm box under the dash

on my car there is, what i assume to be, a seat belt or door ajar alarm box under the dash behind where the radio is. My question is. dose this thing have any other important fuction or can I just unplug it and toss it? It will start dinging while Im driving sometimes (seat belt on) and it gets on my nerves. i was thinking I could use the weight reduction lol. maybe an ounce worth of reduction lol.

just unplug it. i did it to mine but my horn stopped working. i dont know why it stopped though but if the horn is hooked to it i would leave it plugged.

air bag monitor? when i open my door it chimes through the little box.

If you are talking about the Blue Box behind the Climate Controls it is the Airbag Diagnostic Monitor, it should not be making Chimes when you open the door!

My steering wheel has tape on it from when the previous owner had the car. He most likely had blown the air bag at some point. Dose the airbag monitor do anything else that I would be concered about unpluging it?
