I like Elway a lot. There are lots of other Qb's who are in same category but the way I see it Manning and Brady are still a notch above. Im not saying that those two are the best who have ever stepped onto the field and everyone else is just avg or decent.

Redline, can you honestly say that you are very familiar with the other QBs mentioned above? If you have only seen a few highlight films or red stat lines, you're not getting the whole picture. Personally, I can't go back further than Montana because that is when I began to watch the NFL closely.

Mike makes a really good point about the dead ball era though. Guys like Bradshaw would have put up way better numbers if the rules were all the same back then. The NFL has catered the rule book to make the game more exciting by making it much much easier for offenses and harder for the Defense. So it is very difficult to compare them.

Agreed. That's why I believe you have to judge the player by how much better he was than his contemporaries. As an example, it's easy to show how Babe Ruth was the best MLB player ever. Everything he did was WAY, WAY better than any other player at that time.

Bradshaw no, Elway yes, Young Yes, Montana no. Its just how I see it, nothing more nothing less.

On a sadder note Richard Seymour has now departed from the Patriots.

New England Patriots deal Richard Seymour to Oakland Raiders - ESPN

One good thing is that they still have Jarvis Green who I imagine will take his place, hes always been an incredible back up to Seymour and could have started for many other teams. Glad they held onto him

Don't be sad... they ROBBED the raiders.. Belichick got the raiders first rounder for 2011. So he traded away a player he could not sign and got a potential top 5 pick.. hell the raiders are managed so poor that could be a top 2 pick

Sure seymour is still a very good player but this is a good move that will help them make that defense younger Plus you hve to remember seymour is best suited as a DE in a 3-4defense. this team looks like it's going 4-3 based on personal

Plus I am sure this is one of the things the magic hoody is taking in consideration that in 2011 we might have a rookie salary cap.. If that is the case then a very high pick from the raiders would not have to be traded

The rule changes between now and when I started watching football in the early 70's has changed alot. The receivers were pushed and shoved well beyond 5 yards up until the ball was almost to the receiver. Their was no replay. A fumble was a fumble. The football had to go BEYOND the plane of the goaline to be a touchdown. A tipped pass by a reciever could never be touched by another receiver and caught. It had to go offense, defense, offense to be advanced or recovered by the offense. The quarterbacks today are pansies compared to the 70's. Their was no protecting the quarterback. They got killed. The offense and defensive lines were war zones. Head slaps were legal, chop blocks were legal. You could stand on other players to block feild goals and extra points. It was true football back then. Today is a very watered down version.

Yeah I agree mike getting the raiders 1st rounder is a hell of a deal b/c I dont see them improving much at all so over all we will probably end up better but it just sucks to see him go after hes been w/ the team for so long. I saw him here when t hey had the 2004 Superbowl victory tour so that was kinda cool

I read the Farve one and the one on brady. That really puts things into perspective. I hold Brady in high regards but seeing all his numbers in black and white is something else

His regular-season (87-24) and postseason (14-3) records as a starter are each the best among active quarterbacks

I said 12X and 26 a few posts ago, i was pretty close

101-27

they have Roethlisberger in the two slot.. I agree with that.. guy is clutch and his team wins.. May not always be pretty or great stats but he gets the job done.

I agree 100%. Looks like a very good move for the Pats. Unless they have no one to take his place right away it's a smart move. It helps the Raider's crappy Dline but they have so many problems it seems like a dumb move for them. They need a complete rebuild as opposed to the "finger in the dike" approach.

One thing this move does confirm for me is belichick does not plan on leaving NE anytime soon.. this move is designed for 3-4 years down the road unless he trades that pick now for a established player??

From what I hear seymour had fallen out of favor with belichick for awhile now, a lot of people around here has felt he has been dogging it some plays and has not been the same player he was during his first 5 years in the league.

His key strength was he tied up two blockers and in a 3-4 he allowed the OLB to get pressure on the QB.. In his last few years some teams have stopped double teaming him on a lot of plas... pats may be going to a 4-3 now and he is not as well suited for that defense.

The were not going to sign him no matter what after this season because they have to work out deals for wilfork, mankins and they have to do something for brady.. he is starting to get pissed at lesser qb's making quite a bit more. At his age he is looking for that one last big deal

I don't think he will help the raiders that much because that team is so poorly constructed it needs to be torn down and rebuilt.

The Raiders need to be torn down from Al Davis down. They pick a damn reciver 1st pick every year and ingore the rest of the problems w/ the team on both sides of the ball.

What I love most about the great 8 list is Eli isn't on it at all.

When I saw Chad Pennington on the list, that told me all I needed to know.

pennington is a decent QB.. over 90 qb rating for his career... If he did not have all those arm injuries he would have been even better.. I also love it how the jets let him go thinking farve was what they needed to get that garbage team over the top and farve and the jets failed in the same season pennington lead miami to the playoffs

The jets just suck.. they could have any qb out of that list and still fail because they are a failure of a organization. LOL even tom brady who never talks crap called them the one team in the NFL he has no respect for

BTW if you can't tell I really don't like the jets or their fans.. Seriously why would anybody from NY or NJ be a fan of the jets when they have a good organization like the giants in the same building..

Most of my family lives on Long Island and are Jets fans. Usually but not always Jet & Mets run together. My brother's wife once said, "The Jets are the biggest tease team in any professional sport." I agree. Just when they need 1 more win to be in, they lose the next 3. Horrific tease team.

Kicking Pennington to the curb was the 2nd biggest mistake in franchise history. The 1st was letting Belechick go to the Pats. They took Favre to sell seats. They lost Pennington (whose injuries/recovery was in question then) and lost 1 whole year in getting a young QB ready to lead the team. Very short-sighted move. It's almost as if they get advice from Danny Snyder.

Looks like Quinn is getting the go for the Browns...

Cleveland Browns' Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn told who will start, Eric Mangini says - ESPN

BEREA, Ohio -- The mystery about Cleveland's starting quarterback has been solved -- sort of.

Browns coach Eric Mangini informed Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson of his decision during a meeting on Tuesday night, and both quarterbacks did their best to keep the secret as the team prepared for Sunday's opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

But by mid-afternoon, word already was starting to leak out. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that according to a league source, Quinn got the nod to start.

I would of been pissed if Anderson would of got it.
