Bluffing024 *OFFICIAL* 2009 NFL Thread

Speak of the devil. Eli may sign as early as tonight:

Eli Manning has agreed to a new six-year, $97 million contract extension with the New York Giants that will make him the highest paid player in the NFL with an average salary of roughly $15.3 million.

I thought Haynesworth was paid more. I guess not. Eli will play 2009 at his rookie contract price and the 2010-2015 seasons at the new salary.

hes not even remotely worth that amount of money. The only decent year hes had was the super bowl winning year. Other then that hes been an avg QB at best

Actually, Eli played better in 2008 than 2007. He cut his picks in half and improved his completion %. Every year he gets a little better.

The Giants historically have had nothing but ass clowns at QB since Phil Simms, maybe just maybe you can consider Collins acceptable. If the Giants did not sign Eli, they'd be screwed. No viable alternative.
If Eli hit the open market, at least 10 NFL teams would be fighting to sign him and he would have been paid much more.
Is he the best QB in the NFL? No. But remember that each year for a very good player the market keeps going up. Eli's contract gives him LESS guaranteed money than Matt Stafford who has never played a down in the NFL!

im back you hoebags had a change of jobs so not really on lately. packers gonna walk on you all don't worry bout that.

the eli thing yea that is just rediculous it's not like they had to worry about someone taking him away from them.

Speaking of Brady & the Pats, is Brady at or near 100%? That's a huge question with no Cassel on staff anymore.
I haven't heard anything on Brady so far.

Any news, anyone?

I watched him play at practice last week, he looked good, all reports are that he is as good as he's going to be. With that injury nobody ever recovers 100%, but Brady at 90% is better than Ben or Peyton at 100% so I'm not worried. No Cassel no big deal, last year going into the season with Casel and Goot, people were all worried and it ended up working out, thats what Bill Does; works things out!

+1. I stayed out of it because every other post lead to brady and the Pats. Hasn't changed this year either.

That's because certain people would not let things go. It was not the Patriots fans consistently bringing things up

Hes been at his current playing level for quite awhile. Hes not coming into the season still injured and rehabbing like Peyton was last season. As Notchnut said he will prob never be 100% but hell even Brady at 70% is still better then 90% of the QB's in the NFL. From what I have been hearing and reading about his injury Id say hes in the 90% range as far as full recovery.

It will be important for him to be healed enough to avoid the average pass rush when needed. If he's gimpy (not saying he is) then he stands a good chance to get injured again.

Will he be playing at all in the preseason games?

yeah but not all

What starting QB Plays all the preseason games? Id expect to see him maybe in the third or forth game but not the first two. Thats pretty common. They play this weds so I guess we'll see

He has been fully healed for awhile, he himself has said he will be starting on week 1 for quite awhile. There is no story regarding brady not being ready

I know starting QB's do not play much save for practice game #3 where they may play the whole 1st half.
Sounds like good news for Pats fans. For Giant fans, Osi seems to have made a nice recovery also. The Dline looks very special this year.

Good for Osi, always good to see quality players come back from bad injuries. Unfortunately your problem lies in your over paid QB who lost his only receiver he could throw to b/c he was tall enough to catch all of his sailing over thrown lack of accuracy passes.

You probably don't see many Giant games. Burress last year caught 35 passes. 4 other Giant players caught more than that: Ward with 41, Hixon (Burress replacement) grabbed 43, Toomer caught 48 and Smith had 57. Eli spreads the ball around. Another popular target is TE Boss who only caught 33. The Giants have a large group of young WR's now. Some with a year or so experience, some rookies. How the passing game works out is a big question this year.

I just think hes been put on a pedestal and does not belong on. I dont see in anyway how he should be the highest paid player in the NFL. Granted the Giants won the Superbowl in 07 but that was due more to Tyre somehow coming down w/ the ball on a third and thirteen. Even going to and winning the SB as a QB is no reason for you to become the highest paid player in the game. IMO there are many other players in many other positions who are more valuable then a Eli Manning. Id take Larry Fitzgerald 7 days a week over Eli.
