Playoff time is rapidly approaching and the Chargers may have an opportunity to seal up a postseason spot next week.

At the close of Sunday's games, the AFC looks like this:

1. Indy 12-0
2. SD 9-3
3. Cin 9-3
4. NE 7-5
5. Den 8-4
6. Jax 7-5

After that we have Baltimore at 6-5 with a game Monday night against the Packers, Miami at 6-6, The Jets at 6-6, and Pittsburgh at 6-6.

The following scenario could see the Chargers locking up a playoff berth in week 14:

A Baltimore loss tomorrow in Green Bay.
A Pittsburgh loss in Cleveland Thursday night.
A Baltimore loss at home against the Lions.
A Jets loss in Tampa Bay.
A Miami loss in Jacksonville.
A Chargers victory in Dallas.

This would give the Jets, Ravens, Steelers, and Dolphins all seven losses on the year, while the Chargers would have won ten, guaranteeing they finish with no more than six losses, clinching them at least a Wild Card Playoff berth.

Now, I know the team is very much in contention for a #2 seed, and that a Wild Card berth would be a disappointment. I also know that the scenario presented is a pretty unlikely one. Nevertheless, I enjoy watching these type of scenarios, so I put it here for others who also do to have a look at.

There may well be tie-breaker scenarios that put the Chargers in an advantageous position, such as the head-to-head victory over Miami. I didn't omit the Miami game, though it would seem that the Chargers need only one win to finish better than Miami, because Miami could still win their division, potentially leaving the Patriots to contend for a Wild Card berth with the Chargers, and we don't have a head-to-head win there. Also, the Chargers have a decent Conference record (currently 7-3) which could factor into tie-breakers should they occur.

GAHHHHH the steelers are killing me...4 losses in a row, 2 in a row to teams that are SUB PAR at best. sigh, so much for this season.

Don't worry, you guys can take all you anger out on us this Thursday :nice:

A Pittsburgh loss in Cleveland Thursday night.

I think I can safely say this part of the scenario will not happen, although we did play decent against SD.....who knows

Hopefully the Vikings suck next week since Bengals play them and we need to keep winning!

Bengals suck :D

The worst team in the league at losing at the end of games is the Redskins. They had the Eagles beat, Cows beat and the Saints beat also. So...they lost all 3.

Giants need to beat the Eagles next week to have any hope.

I don't know man.. the patriots are up there this year in could have should would have 4th quarters..

the pats have been HUGE disappointment this year..

they are running out of time to get this **** figured out.. Belichick needs to find a pass rush somehow if they have any hopes of making it out of the wildcard round let alone beating SD or indy

so who u guys think has the better chance of finishing the season undefeated the colts or saints?

But I'm not biased... :D

Honestly I don't know. I could see this one coming down to the SB of undefeated teams if the cards fall right. I'd rather see the Saints get a SB win regardless of record though. But, in a perfect world they take it all. :nice:
