Boom!...I need you to build my engine

Josh is referring to compression ratios I believe. I know you know this, but the OP may not. A long block set up with a C/R to be ideal for boost will not make ideal power naturally aspirated. At that point you're talking about changing pistons, combustion chamber size and valvetrain components to suit each goal.

Good! So many ideas, my head is spinning. I do like the suggestions, and hope to hear more.

I will narrow it down and I will pick one and build it and post on this site.

Gonna get a camera so I can show what happened to the engine
:)

For one, don't build a 5k engine no matter what you do. That'll be a big waste of money because everyone is setting you up for a ton more money to be spent.

If you put that healthy of a engine in there you have to upgrade the rest of the car:
engine
trans
rear
suspension
fuel system
tuning

If I was you, I'd find a used engine for sale somewhere for grand-1500 with low miles and some goodies like aluminum heads, cam and aftermarket intake and put it in the car and have some fun.

I'll probably be the outcast on this but not start a dart block based combo with only 5grand to spend. It won't work out in the long run. You'll either have to spend a lot more money or you'll have a dart block with good internals and stock heads/etc etc because you ran out of funds to finish it correctly. 5grand isn't anything when dealing with that type of combo.

Good luck.

Not necessarily. I guess you would need to define stout, but say he goes the 351 w/the TF 205's and gets somewhere around 400. When it comes time to get some boost 600 or so would be feasible and its still stout. To me that seems stout anyways

Yeah, that's what I meant. I'm sure those heads would work great, you're just giving up a lot n/a with 1.5-2 points less compression.

Nobody said anything about a dart block, ive seen used 351 shortblocks going for 300 bucks on craigslist. What i described could be done for under 5k.

I said if he looks around he can find a dart block for cheap, over the last year ive seen around 5 or 6, i picked up my block for 1k, and i have seen at least 2, short blocks going for 2500ish for a 331 and a 347, set of decent heads then boost the **** out of it and you're set, but 90lxcoupe's way is the cheapest route for the most power now
