Boost Leak? *pics*

Hey guys, was detailing the car today and popped the hood for the first time in weeks. I noticed on my discharge pipe some black soot neat where we tapped for the IAT. Any idea what this could be? Obviously this means I have a bit of boost leak but hopefully nothing significant.

I don't know why it's like that but I'd definitely clean the IAT. The car isn't running bad though?

i used some hi temp rtv to seal mine up. just make sure it doesnt get in the IAT sensor, just on the base of it.

Thanks man! Do you think the black is blowby oil? I need to get an oil separator but have no idea what I'm lookin for.

i'm not sure on taht one. mine has no black stuff on the pipes. i dont run an oil seperator either.

That would be my guess. Big problem with blown engines. Pull the sensors, clean em up, stick them back end and get an oil separator. I think I gave you a link on making your own up in another thread.

You think I have to clean the IAT? The car seems to be running fine. I just don't want to break something that doesn't need work.

As for the oil seperator, you did? If you did, I never got it

As for cleaning the AIT (or ACT), just spraying it down with a little electrical contact cleaner and blowing it off with some compressed air should get you back and running. Its cheap insurance to ensure that the sensor is reading correctly. A contaminated sensor could throw off readings causing you to either leave a little power on the table by pulling timing early, or not pulling enough timing which could end with some pretty catastrophic results. If there’s oil getting in around the bung itself, you can be sure it’s getting on the sensor too.

check the supercharger and get oil seperator for your PCV valve and get a breather on your oil cap i dont like that oil in the discharge tube!

That looks more like condensation mixed with a dirty intake tube to me. I wouldn't think oil would make a splatter type design like that.

Anyways, I agree that I would use RTV or perhaps teflon tape when you put the sensor back in to the pipe.

clean the sensor jstu in case, get an oil sperator, and RTV that sucker in there. problem solved
