So I know going from a stock intake to an aftermarket one you will lose some boost, but how much? Im making about 5 pounds right now, does that seem right with a stock 6-8 lb pulley? or do i have bigger problems?

Check your belt could be slipping.... How high are you revving?

My set up when similar to yours was yeilding similar boost numbers as you at 5500 with a slipping belt and the stock SC inlet. Once the belt was tightened i was seeing closer to 8 and 9#'s at 6000 rpm's.

Are you using the stock tach to judge rpm's? I have found mine was reading higher than the motor was actually turning.

Anywhich way.... You should see lower boost with a better intake manifold.... and thats a good thing More effiecient = more power with less heat.

I agree with this. Less boost isn't always a bad thing. More airflow potential equals better power. One of the magazines, sometime in the recent past, did a test that was something like this and they made more power with less boost with a free-er flowing intake system. Having said that, I would def. make sure you're not losing some psi to a slipping belt etc. You don't want to lose power that way after investing in a SC'd setup.
