Boring Honing Decking Stroker Kit

Hey guys, so I called my local machine shop today... and I am dropping off my block on sat., they want to check the block first before ordering the stroker kit, just to make sure everything is ok, I am giving him 200 dollars to start the job, I have cleaned with a solvent to get the grease off and I power washed it for about 2 hours and tried to get it as clean as I could. It does look pretty good, but I think they acid dunk it and he mentioned stress testing or something. The owner used to be a neighbor and is a friend of mine and may dad's so I know I'm not going to get ripped off but just want to see if the pricing seems right to you guys. I think he will charge me around 200 to bore and hone the block.. and I'm sure if it needs to be decked that will be extra. But just hoping everything is ok with it. He said he has built them before using the probe 347 kit and that they are good kits. I just wanted to see what you guys think of the pricing, and I wanted to get your guys opinion about the balancing. With the pics I have looked at it looks like they balance it with the harmonic balancer and flywheel.... and adperformance said it would be 200 to get a balanced kit.. I am thinking it would be better for me to have my shop balance it. Does anyone know if the stock balancer would work, and I what about the flywheel.. Do you think it is a must to replace both while I'm at it, or if my parts are in good condition can I use them. Oh and last thing what is the weight of the stock balancer.. 88 gt vert.. Stock imbalance is 50oz.

Your kit is likely to be 28 oz. You will need a new balancer and flywheel (28 oz.) for them to balance it.

Just to keep it your confusion down, just go with your local shop.

Those prices are not out of the norm.

Bake cleaning or hot tank cleaning should be done before the machine shop
inspects your block. Hopefully the price you were quoted includes sonic checking.

200.00 for bore and finish hone is acceptable.
You should expect to pay around 80.00 to have the block decked.
Ask the machinist if he will be using torque plates.

200.00 for balancing rotating assembly to 28oz is acceptable.
You may use your original flywheel and damper, but I suggest you get a lightweight flywheel and damper of good to very good quality... you won't regret the extra you spend.

If you buy the Probe 347 kit, spend the extra for lightweight rods. The 5.315" or 5.4" rods will work as well as the other... it's up to you which one you want to use.
You might want to research whether to use a forged crank or nodular... if you don't plan on high rpm and > 450hp, consider the nodular or steel crank. It's up to you.

He is going to hot tank it for sure, before he checks the block.. thanks for the reply's by the way!! Much appreciated!! He did mention something about that it will need some sort of checking.. not sure if it is done with uv, or sonic... but I am pretty sure that is what he was talking about.. he didn't want me to order the kit till he checked it to make sure it would take the kit and that the block is in good shape. I definitely will go with the new balancer and flywheel. I am starting to get excited!! I think I may just have him assemble most of it including putting on the heads and intake... just to make sure this is done right.. I will probably order the heads at the same time as the kit, through him, just to make sure it is properly matched! I think he will give me any recommendations.. I am pretty sure they do custom cams there, I am thinking I may just have him do it instead of adperformance.. what do you guys think..
