bought new wheels need help with tires

I just oreded 18x9 and 18x10 in bullitt wheels for my 03 mach 1 and am wondering rather to go with 275/35s and 295/35s or 275/40s and 295/40s? I know the 35s are probably the closer size to stock diameter, but what will look better? I dont want it to look to low profile like something ricey off a honda. I also noticed the 2000 cobra Rs come with the 275/40s that is what gave me the idea. I also just ordered BBK specific rate springs if that makes a difference. Does anyone have pics with the different size tires or had experience
using them? thanks

I'd stick with the 40's getting 275x35 is gonna be have a very thin sidewall, it looks good, but i hate the way they handle and how you have to be worried about every little bump But thats just my $.02

Get the 35s. They won't look Ricey at all. And when you get them on, post pics.

A co-worker of mine has the 9's on front and 10's in the rear.

The car looked horrible with the 275-40 up front and 295-35 in the rear. The front tire just looked like it had way to big of a profile. Go with the 35's up front.

The R model also has 18x9.5 all around.

XStanger I noticed when putting a 275/35 next to a 295/35 it is actually a little smaller around than the 295 and the 275/40 is slightly bigger around than the 295/35, so thats good to know not to run that combination, I was actually considering it. how did the 40 look on its own though? better or worse? maybe it would be best to run 40s all around. I am either gonna go 275/35-295/35, 275/40-295/40, or 265/40-285/40. what do you guys think will look the best?

Going with a 275/35 compared to your stock 245/40 only drops your sidewall height from 3.85 to 3.79 barely a .10 of an inch. Here are the #'s your looking for:
.................Tire diameter....Tire sec width....Sidewall height
245/40-17......24.71..................9.64..................3.85
275/35-17........24.57...............10.82.................3.789
295/35-17.......25.12................11.61..................4.06

From a PM I got back from GinoGT "18x9 and 18x10 with 265/35-18 and 295/35-18. No clearance problems. "

I would go with the 35's...And as far as it not handling well, I would think that would be more a function of the tire you are running, ie...If you are running drag radials you shouldn't be complaining about the handling characteristics of a 35 series tire. I run the TOYO T1-S's and I love them, and it handles great!! Way better then the stock goodyears.....

I just saw another post where someone had 335/30/18s on the rear. I know its only a 30 but on a 10 inch rim it would probably push the side wall up pretty high. Would this fit with out making modifications? also what would match for the front 9s? maybe 265/40s?

If you go with the 40 series tires the sidewall will be the same as the stock tires were (4.34 in.) in the front. However if you use the 40's in the rear, the sidewall will be 4.64 in. which means that you will have more sidewall in the rear than the stock tires had. You could always mix them up. If you are set on the 40 series in the front, I would do 295/35's in the rear. You aren't really gaining anything by going with the 40 series in the rear except for a little extra weight. You shouldn't feel a difference in the ride quality. I have 275/35/18's all the way around and the car feels the same, if not better than it did stock.

My suggestion would be:
Back = 315/30/18 25.4 inch diameter
Front= 275/35/18 25.5 inch diameter

Stock 245/45/17 diameter is 25.6 inch diameter

With this setup when your speedo says 65 you'll really be going 64.4 mph. Not bad, plus it will look bad ass.

The 30 series sidewall on the back will be 94.5 mm tall vs the 35 series sidewall on the front of 96.25. 1.75 difference. Do you know how small 1.75 mm is? Unnoticable to the eye when you look at the car.

He knows that the speedo will be off. Reread it, he said he knows the the 275/35 is the right size. I think we all can go to these sites and find out which one is the closest. From his post it sounds like he doesn't want a skinny tire. The sidewall height on the stock tires is 110.25mm. 110.25mm - 96.25mm is 14 mm (or roughly .6 inches). That's a considerable difference.

I'm not saying that you're information is incorrect, because it's not, it's actually very accurate. But I think you missed the point of his post.

BTW I didn't misinform anyone.
