Brake Bleeding Kits?

Can anyone recommend a good brake bleeding kit? I'd like to be able to flush out my brake system. Of course tools that are multifunction are always nice, so if it does more than brakes, all the better :D .

I'd obviously like one that doesn't get air in my lines and that I can do with just myself.

Also, where do I take my old brake fluid? :rlaugh:
 
Any should be fine. Mine said brake bleeding on it. They should be available at any auto parts stores.
I love my kit. Just remember to have the master cylinder cover on tight.
 
Brake Bleeding

I have read the best way to bleed our brakes involves the use of "Speed Bleeder" screws. These replace the regular bleeder screws, they have a check valve built into them. You just loosen them, pump the brakes a few times and tighten them back up. I haven't used them, but I probable will get a set in the future. Important: Do not let your master cyl to go dry, if you do, you'll get air into the ABS unit which is a real PITA. Do one wheel at a time, always starting with the pass side rear, drivers side rear, pass side front and last, drivers side front.
 
I have speedbleeders on mine and they work great. Makes it a one man job, almost impossible to screw it up. I bleed two cans worth out of mine before every open track day just to remove the fluid that was cooked in the calipers last time. Speed bleeders are all you need.
 
I'd like to know why also. I don't have one anymore but have used one before with good results. The vaccum bleeder coupled with speedbleeders would literally make it a 15 min job. I've been thinking of getting another one just to eliminate all the walking back and forth.
 
Unless you have a positive way to connect the vacuum hose to the brake bleeder screw, it is WAY too easy to loose the connection and allow air into the system.

Did someone say they can bleed brakes with vacuum in 15 minutes? I would be willing to bet that I can bleed with a GOOD pressure bleeder or the two man method in 10 minutes.

Don't take a chance. Getting air in the ABS system can potentially be a dangerous situation.

It amazes me how many people that I've seen on car enthusiast forums that refuse to believe that there is not a simple way to do things. As simpler, effective methods for doing things are developed and discovered, they are widely adopted. It also amazes me that people are willing to experiment when it comes to their brakes.
 
Bleeding

I too am curious as to why you shouldn't use a vaccum bleeder on ANS brakes. I have the one from Griot's Garage and used it on a 2000 GT with ABS with no apparent problems. Exactly what is the potential problem?
 
When I use the vacuum pump, I don't release the pressure as I close the bleeder screw. This keeps any air out of the system.

I think that if air has already entered the system from the master cylinder or calipers for examples, then do'nt bleed the brakes with a vacuum pump.

I don't see why it matters. If you pump the brake pedal, you push the fluid. If you use a vacuum pump then you pull the fluid. The air is still forced out right?
 
Yes, the air is pulled out AS LONG AS YOU DON'T LOSE THE CONNECTION OVER THE BLEEDER SCREW! As I said before, there is not a positive connection of the vacuum pump on the screw.

There is a BIG difference in FLUSHING brakes and BLEEDING brakes. In the case of flushing, IF YOU'RE CAREFUL and don't lose the connection you can GET BY with the vacuum. If the system has been open and there is considerable air in the system you will find that unless you are using a high volume, motorized vacuum pump, you won't be able to pull enough volume with a vacuum method to keep the air out of the upper components (ABS.)

With a handheld vacuum pump, you pull a little vacuum with a stroke and it will pull down a little fluid, but a bubble can and probably will rise in the system while you are gripping for the next pump of the vac pump handle.

If you are using a pressure bleeder or the two man method, you are getting enough volume to push fluid on through, getting air out.

When it comes down to it, the issue is adequate fluid volume which you can't get with a hand pumped bleeder.
