Think it's time to have the brake booster (Midland type) rebuilt seeing how it's been in service for over 30 years - even though it still works OK. Did a search and didn't come up with much info on booster rebuilders. Gave the parts store folks a shot with very unsatisfactory results - wrong booster (Bendix) always shipped regardless. So, now I need to find a reliable rebuilder. Whitepost was noted in an earlier post and they ask about $500 for a rebuild of the booster and resleeve (brass) of the mc. Anybody know of other sources?? I found "Karp's" (www.resleeve.com) in Upland, CA. Anyone had any experience with these folks? They do stainless resleeving. Found some so-so comments about Booster Exchange in Portland. Any info greatly appreciated.

TIA

Google or search for "Booster Dewey" on this and other mustang sites.
If your brake pedal sinks a bit when you start your car with your foot resting on the pedal, your booster is functioning.

for Jester67, no, not concourse, but more of safety concern .... I'm concerned that after 30+ years of service that the rubber diaphram may be beyond its useful life and whilst I'm rebuilding the rest of the brake system, might as well do the booster too .... unless that approach is folly and the rubber could be just fine .... how does one know? ....

Just had mine rebuilt by Booster Dewey.
Heck of a nice guy, very thorough.
I sprung for the cadmium kind of coating as I've had problems with brake fluid leaking and eating paint away.

update on reman's ...

well, turns out jester67 may have been onto something .... I called KARP's (carefull how one spells that) to get pricing .... $130 for complete booster rework with black paint .... add another $65 for powder coat .... but the chap there questioned the wisdom of fixing something that ain't broke .... he recommended (at the expense of turning away business) to use it until it breaks .... the other thing that struck me is that KARP's policy is to repair/rework what they receive and return same -- i.e., no swapping of like product .... although I have good vibes about KARP's, nothing beats hands-on experience .... I'll check with Dewey too .... but I think for now I'll put the brakes back together and test out the front disc rebuild first and defer booster rebuild to when I restore the rear drums in early winter .... buying time and collecting more info ....

thanks again for the help and if anyone has any (more) intell on KARP's and others, please PM me or post to this thread ....
