I just bought a '96 GT and the brake pedal is too mushy. I want to flush my brake system. Has any one used a pressure bleeder? I found one at www.motiveproducts.com but doesn't look like they have an adapter for us. Anyone know anything about them?

Thanks!

citius3:

I have a pressure bleeder and it works well. The generic adapter plate from Motive Products does leak if it is not clamped on squarely to the master cylinder. You can make a custom adapter using a second master cylinder cap and a shrader valve (the same type that is installed on your wheels). This is much less likely to leak. You should know that the master cylinder can be bled, too. The Haynes manual ($18) has a good (but a little generic) write-up. You will need about 3 or 4 containers (pint?) of "Ford Heavy Duty Brake Fluid" (high quality, low cost -- kind of a pleasant surprise).

Thanks Chris for the tip! I called and spoke with Motive yesterday after I posted and they said they have just released a new twist-in cap for us! I might have to give that a try. You know any place to get it cheaper than direct from Motive?

No, I used their website to order my power bleeder. Now I'm going to order the twist cap!

There is an excellent site for brake info that may help you, too. Here it is (take out the space after the www: http://www .veryuseful.com/mustang/tech/
