Brake Parts

Anyone venture into new OEM sized rotors yet? I am at 28k miles and they pulsate like crazy - I might be hard on brakes - they have pulsated for a few months now.

Other than a few wheel upgrade thoughts I love this car the way it is. However the brakes could use some help.

I am not a fan of turning pulsating rotors, never had much success. Anyone have any brand suggestions on replacement rotors and complimenting pads....I am not spending $1500 to $2500 on a big brake set, although I imagine they would feel great.

Look forward to your suggestions.

I went with Power Slot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. They will only cost you a little more than stock replacements and they DO work. At a recent track event I ran my car with only minor brake fade while another guy there with stock pads and rotors said he had to back it down the last lap because his brake pedal was going all the way to the floor. I also switched to Willwood DOT4 fluid. If you just want a good upgrade for street use for only a little more money I'd go this route. Be forwarned though, the Powerslot rotors are just slotted and coated OEM pieces so don't be disapointed when they show Ford stampings and the Hawk Pads do produce a little more dust than the stock ones. Not bad but enough to notice.

I just got an email from GEF Racing that they have some Shelby upgrade kits to convert your GT to the 4 piston Brembo 14" brakes on the '07 Shelby. The kit looks like it comes with everything you'd need except rear rotors. It's $1000 but that's not bad considering what you get. Are you sure you don't want a big brake upgrade? Just food for thought.

For just a better street set-up, which would be a better choice, the StopTech 05/06 GT STAGE 2 BRAKE UPGRADE from brenspeed or the gefracing Shelby brake upgrade (regardless of cost)? I believe the GT500 uses the same rear brake system as the Mustang GT expect for the pads, correct? I have 18x8.5 wheels, I wonder if both brake upgrade systems would fit???

For the street, I'd think the Shelby setup would be better. The Stoptech upgrade is mostly centered around reducing brake fade and while the pads and braided lines would reduce your stopping distances, I don't think they would equal the extra leverage and clamping power of those big Brembo calipers and bigger discs. If you're serious about the 14" upgrade I'd call Brembo and ask. They might be able to tell you if your wheels will fit.

Right on! Did it include everything but the back rotors? i am trying to find it at their site but unable to. Do you have a link for it? I would love to get that package as long as the back rotors are not another $500 or more. Thanks.
