ok, every once in awhile, my brakes act up.

when coming to a stop, the brake pedal feels like it pushes up and makes a groaning sound. what could be the problem?

My brakes did that, I think its either brake fluid, rotors or the pads (i replaced them all at once) and now its gone.

Does it feel like when the ABS kicks in when making a panic stop? If that's the case, could be air in your ABS, or a messed sensor.

i dont believe it feels like abs. every other car i've owned never had abs before. my girlfriends sunfire has it though. i have no clue when(if ever) the brake fluid has been changed, and the car has 80,000 miles on it.

Does it only happen in reverse and when the brakes are wet (car was just washed)?

If so its normal.

If not check anti-moan brackets for loose bolt.

doesnt happen any specific time, well actually right after i start driving it, within the first 5-10 minutes of driving it will do it, but not always.

anti-moan brackets.......

Does the sound seem like it is coming from the passenger side of the car?

Its not that difficult... just buy 13inch front brakes and a cobra rear kit and calipers and you will have to flush the fluid anyway

Problem solved
