Just picked up my first 'Stang ever, and wow what a ride! Got the GT Premium edition in red with the red leather interior and of couse a fivespeed.
I've already put a few hundred miles on it, but my question is, what's the best way to break in the vehicle for best performance and reliability? I've haven't flogged it much, two treks up to 120, a couple WOT take offs, and a race with a Porsche which I won. Everyone else, as in all the ricers, I'm turning down, it seems like everyone and their grandma wants to race me now..geeze! All in all though I'm in love with my first "American Muscle Car"

Amen bro. Congratulations. It's the best car I've ever driven. Fun times indeed.

I remember when I got mine right after Thanksgiving, and this F-150 wanted to take me on. It's a quick truck, but man I blew him away. A guy in a BMW pulled up along side of me to tell me I had a cool ride. I still get compliments....the novelty hasn't worn off.

I've been told you can drive them hard from the start, if you want to be safe, don't burn it.

The "break in bible"

Change your oil within 500 miles the first time, lots of crap floating around.

Sounds as if it is already "brokern in". No sense in worrying now. Just give it a chance to breathe once in a while. Regular oil changes with some quality slick stuff, a nice premium fuel (I use Shell 93) and a weekly wash and shine!

Treatem like a pony? I wipe mine down each evening due to it being black, windows too. As for the engine. I use Royal Purple with a K&N oil filter. Change it out monthly. Wipe the engine compartment down each week as well to keep it looking nice and it will make it a whole lot easier to spot something amiss.

I already put on the first 1,000 miles. When I was on the freeway I kept alternating my speed and running through the gears every five to 10 minutes. Now that I got it back home to Michigan I did replace the oil already, can't hurt right? And yeah, I did run it a bit hard, even did some more racing!
