I spent the day at brenspeed today for there annual dyno day I watched as 35 - 40 mustangs 1 after another went on to the dyno and only saw maybe 10 that broke 300 horse and only 3 that were over 500 hundred horse 2 of which were super snakes and 1 was a 03 cobra modded to the gills. That said I saw like 8 stock stang gt make there way up and like only 2 were above 225 horse. My car has a 110 mm jlt intake a 62mm gms throttle body a brenspeed 93 tune headers and off road x pipes and violater exhaust. My car only came in at 299 peak horse after 3 pulls on the machine. How does ford get away with saying that the stock 05-09 gt is 300 horse when in fact it is not even 250 ? Where do they get there numbers?

cuz the horsepower you saw being measured is at the tires. car companies are rating the hp at the flywheel of the motor. having to spin the drivetrain eats up some of the power before it gets to the wheels

Yes, those numbers are read at the wheels not the crank. Usually a good number to use as a % loss through the drivetrain is 17%. So if the stock Mustang is rated for 300 hp at the crank, that equals approx. 250 hp at the wheels.

I guess the point that I wanted to make is you're at 300 rwhp, this equates to approx. 360 crank hp. You've gained an additional 60 hp with your mods! Pretty good results IMO!

And lets not forget that numbers will vary from one dyno to another.

This thread reminds me of the heartbreaking trips to the dyno that my friends used to make with their foxbodies.

They would add the "advertised" HP gains from every bolt on they threw on their car........throttle body 20hp........intake manifold 27hp.....cold air kit 20hp....underdrive pulleys 15hp and so on.

Then they would run to the dyno only to find out that SOMEHOW they did not make that extra 100hp to the wheels they thought.

One guy even sold his car!
