broke the t-stat housing, help!!?

So I was changing the thromostart and flushing the rad, got everything done, and in the process of screwing the thermostat housing back into the engine block it actually cracked and broke, apparently I overtightened the drivers side bolt.

Do you fellas know if the t-stat housing from a Fox 5.0 is the same as ours? I found a parts data base online that says the part number I am looking for is a FOZZ-8592B, which is the same as the part for a Fox 5.0, however, the T-stat housing from my GTS says its a FOZE-8594A.

The picture I found on the net looks identicaly to the part I'm looking for, but I'd like to be sure.

I know that they'll both bolt up to a aftermarket manifold the same way so I don't see why it wouldnt work unless the the neck were at a different deg.

They are all basically the same on the 5.0 mustang. Just go to the local parts house and pick up a new one. Most aftermarket ones are cast steel so if you want it to keep looking good then you need to add a little aluminum paint to it but it is not as prone to cracking like the factory aluminum one is.

Thanks, both you and the fox guys agree that the 87-93 and 94-95 housings are the same, different part numbers.

I broke mine because the thermostat was off center. Picked up a new one at Napa for around $10-$15.

Definitely put some high temp paint on it though. Mine rusted pretty bad and looks like crap.

Thanks for the input, I actually just got back from NAPA, 8.83 and it will be there at 8 AM tomorrow morning.

You'd think that changing the t-stat would be easy and painless. You'd be wrong.

Yeah, I had trouble with mine sealing up good. The stock one kind of locks into place with about a 1/4 turn, where my Mr. Gasket 180* thermostat didn't, making the neck hard to get on without the thermostat slipping between that and the intake. I'm just glad I didn't break mine like you Mike, but I sure understand how it could happen. Glad you got it fixed.

You get the same problem on both the V6 and GT - I've done both. I use the thermostat sealant/make-a-gasket tube you can get at any store, to hold the thermostat in place. I put the thermostat in the housing, and smear some of the sealant on aound the edge of the thermostat itself. It holds the thermostat on really nice when I reinstall the housing onto the intake.. Just gotta be a bit careful not to bump the thermostat when installing.
