HI all! I'm looking for more info on this car. The vin tag is missing on the dash pad but the buck tag is on the rad support. Is it possible to get the complete vin from the buck tag as well as decipher the cars specs?

Maybe this attached photo will help courtesy of a prior post on Stangnet. I believe there is a user here whom owns the websight that decodes buck tags as well as other functions. Maybe they will answer up but for now give this a look. It may help.

You can also take a look at all your body panels and see if any VIN stickers are In place.
The engine bay has 2, the hood has 1, each door has 1 and if it’s a hatch there are 3. Front and rear bumpers have 1 each also.
Even if in place, that Of Course doesn’t mean it’s the true VIN of your car because the panels could have been swapped, etc, but if there, you can cross reference it with the buck tag and what your car is equipped with, etc, and maybe fill in the blanks if that makes sense to determine if the sticker is the true VIN or not.
I assume the certification sticker on the driver door is gone? That has the entire VIN also but again, who’s to say that’s the original door. Just a few pieces of the puzzle for an investigation.
Just thinking out loud. Others will have ideas but for now give it a look and see what you can find.

Here is the websight that decodes the buck tag courtesy of Stangnet member FoxChassis whom is the creator, owner, and operator. A wealth of knowledge for us all.

I know its odd that the VIN is missing on the dash pad but i'm trying to un-race car this fox as its in relatively good shape but need to be able to register it and insure for the street. I will need to track down the registration as well, tricky but worth it in this case. I will look for the vin on the other parts, can someone post some pics of where on the other parts the vin can be seen? I am doing this remotely as the car is not close to me. You guys are awesome!

The vin should be riveted to the metal at the base of the windshield, if it's not there you may not be able to register it.

On my 1991 LX the stickers are located:

- Hood: Open and it’s on the lower left corner (passenger side)
- Engine Bay: One on each fender near the shock towers
- Front Bumper: Open the hood and it’s visible next to the passenger side headlight
- Doors: Open each and look underneath
- Hatch: Open and there is one on each side next to the hatch struts and there is one on the top flat part to the right of the latch/license plate lights.
-Rear Bumper: Underneath on the passanger side.

As for the “parts” that have it stamped and location others will have to help with that.

Correct. Pop the round plastic cover and stick a mirror inside to read the VIN

The VIN under the fenders is only a partial (last 8), same as on the engine and trans.

1987-93 VIN locations...

Full VIN (small sticker on all major body parts):
1. front bumper cover (grill area, lift hood to see)
2. left fender (inside engine compartment)
3. right fender (inside engine compartment)
4. hood (inside engine compartment)
5. left door (bottom)
6. right door (bottom)
7. roof (not on all cars - open door to see)
8. left quarter panel (in weatherstripping channel)
9. right quarter panel (in weatherstripping channel)
10. trunk lid/hatchback (lift hatch up to see)
11. rear bumper cover (bottom)
12. metal plate on firewall (visible through driver-side windshield)
13. large sticker on driver door (non-convertible) or door jamb (convertible)

Partial VIN (last eight only):
14. metal buck tag (screwed or stapled to radiator frame) ¹
15. metal plate under left inner fender
16. metal plate under right inner fender
17. stamped on engine block (flat pad behind lower intake)
18. stamped on transmission (manual: passenger side of main case, automatic: flat pad on top-rear of main case)

¹ The 10th and 11th VIN characters are separated from the 12th-17th characters. On 1987 tags the 10th and 11th VIN characters are reversed, i.e. in the VIN it is "HF" and on the buck tag it is "FH".
