budget late model resto 5.0 short block????

i'm flipping past the pages of mm&ff and saw the late model resto ad at the start/
for $699.99 you get a budget short block.
alum pistons, precision ground 50oz crank.
no cam or timing chain.

does anybody know what kind of power this will support. i will prob. do just H/C/I or a vortech i'm not looking to set HP records

i'm pretty sure it's just oem ford leftovers, ...stock 93-95 shortblock with hypereutechtic pistons...will handle all the power you want before the block splits. careful with boost though, if you detonate the pistons won't like it.

biggest drawback to me is the cast pistons. wouldn't even dream of putting a blower on those pistons. I think it might be ok for an n/a build, but I'd rather find a used stocker, personally. $50 got us a stock short-block that ran fine with the twin-turbo system.

to be completely honest, if you're gonna buy that, just pick up a low mile late 96-01 ford explorer 5.0. They don't cost more than 300-600 and you get the better gt40/gt40p heads and intake with it.

ditto, the only prob is most of the v8 explorers were donate to the CFC program. there are 8 in my local PNP, but they all have silly-cone pumped through them.

it is sad, isn't it?

I find lots of luck looking on craigslist for people parting out explorers (they pumped out 315k a year explorers between those years, so their is lots to go around)

call the 4x4 yards too...
