I've been wanting to build a 331 or 347 for the car in my sig. Ill be purchasing a DSS shortblock soon and was wondering if anyone knew the best setup to run on this H/C/I wise, and what kind of power to expect
Or if I would be better off with a 351W? Any advice would help.

Best piece of advise I can give you is do NOT buy a stroker from DSS. Look around all the mustang sites and see what kind of experience people have with them. Either go with rnhperformance.com or fordstrokers.com Either one will be a MUCH better built motor for less money. Also, either one of them will recommend you a top end setup and a custom cam.

I agree with strtrcr50. Don't Buy Fromm DSS! I've heard nothing but horror stories and bad experiences from people who have dealt with them.

If youre building a performance stroker with aftermarket H/C/I then go 351. Buildup from scratch is about the same as a 302. Hardest part is locating a 351...i got a complete one from a 97 truck with 90k on it in a junk yard $650. Got a Eagle kit with a 4340 crank, h beam rods and SRP forged pistons for $1200....Bout the same price as any 302 quality stroker kit. I had the block hot tanked, bored/plate honed/ balanced blueprinted with heads assembled labor was a little over $1000 (You do want the bottom end assembled by a qualified machinist) But if you go 351 or higher you should have a AFR 205 or better for heads if you want maximum performance out of it. Heads will be the single most expensive thing you buy inless you get a Man O War block. But any stock 351 is more than capable of handling 500+ HP if built properly. 94-97 blocks benefit from factory roller lifters....no retro fitting cams. But they are weaker than the older blocks...but not by a whole lot. My goal is 600rwhp streetable on forced induction.

ill definitly look into that. My other question was how much of a price different would I be looking at if I took a 351 and stroked that? How compatable is it with a T5 and what else would I need to do to use the 351 block other than bellhousing? A lot of questions, I know, but if I'm gonna shell out the big bucks I might as well do it right

You will want to upgrade from a stock T5, because you will MURDER yours with the torque a 351w stroker will make.

I would go with a 408 if i were going that route, the kit will cost more everything else would be the same, then you'll be happy with the power n/a and life will be good, you will need to upgrade your whole drivetrain which is good b/c you will be able to get it together and then slip it in after you swap the accy. over.

sell the 5.0 engine and trans to make some $$ back should be able to get 700 bucks for the engine and trans.

I vote a 347 done right. Fordstrokers bottom end, camshaftinnovations top end. Something like a 10.5/1 forged lower ported twisted wedge or canfield with a vc jr or super vc intake, ci custom cam, 850-950 carb, should be knocking on 500 hp.

PS, I'm building a 408 myself.

Hahaaa

I think this statement alone is the decision maker on a 351

If you're not "MURDERING" a T5 its a waste of a stroker build!!!

Unless of course you don't like power.

That is true, between the full motor build, trans, and any other parts I hope you have considered the budget.
