Built up 302 - Am I making a cooling mistake?

I am building up a 302 from new Ford block, edelbrock heads, intake and water pump.

I chose to reuse the timing cover from the old 289 the car had, and purchased the Edelbrock aluminum water pump that has the same configuration as the 289.

The 302 radiator has the upper hose on the pass side and the lower hose on the driver. My set up is with both hoses on the pass side.

I wanted to know if this is a cooling mistake. My plan was to get a 3 row aluminum radiator this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...00417898241&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

Maybe I should not be doing this?

I am in Arizona btw. I am going to run a mild cam looking to be at about 290 hp.

The aluminum radiator is a good idea, but I'd swap to a later water pump with a driver's side inlet to match the radiator configuration you have now.

Not sure why you would use a 289 configuration and D.Hearne is usually right about these things. If you fear running too hot, can a bigger radiator fit in your car? I run a modified 289 (just over 350hp) w/ an Edlebrock water pump with both inlet and outlet on passenger side. I use a 24" alum radiator and run cool as a cucumber even during July 4th parades!

Don't know when they started making the 3 core in those. But the 2 core won't keep a stock engine with AC cool. Least not on the car we tried it on

If you use the later style water pump make sure you route the belts so that the pump rotates in the correct direction.

You didn't state if you have bought the radiator yet or not, but they do make them with outlets on the driver's side.

Thanks guys, I found a Champion aluminum 4 row radiator made in USA for $300.00. These are lifetime warranty so I think this is the one. The inlet and outlet are both on the pass side so I can use the pump I purchased.

These are Champion model #259.

Dont let the ammount of rows make your choice... Look at how many fins per square inch it has and typically given an overall thickness of say 3 inches, a 2 row will cool better than a 3.
