Bullit Side Scoop Delete Install??

I'm looking to dump my stock 01GT side scoops and go with the Bullitts and I was wondering if anyone has done it, if so, what was used to fasten them to the car and how difficult was the intall. I found them here:

Thanks

It's super easy man--not a tough install but you want to take your time so that you don't damage your paint or your current scoops if you want to sale them. There is 3M tape at the front of the scoops and plastic tabs at the rear on the Bullitts. I bought mine used and painted so I had to be careful not to break my tabs from the stockers so that they might be transferred to the new ones. They just slide in little grooves on the scoop--so you can reuse your existing tabs if you don't break them all, lol. I might have a couple extras if you need 'em! :nice:

Thanks for the info...so there is no need to remove the interior panels like you would to install the stock ones? Do you know specificly which tape you used or did the scoops come with it?

Thanks!

Nope, I didn't have to remove the panels or anything. Just be REAL careful when you are prying off the stockers as they bend easy and obviously the paint is easily screwed up. Try to get a few of the clips loosened and pull outwards--I used this tape:

Forgot to mention, there are also tabs on the FRONT part of the stock scoops as well as the rear...in case you wonder when you pull them off. I broke a couple but had enough good ones left to complete the install....

I have them on mine.

I bought the 3M double sided tape...it's gray in color with a red backing that you peel off. you need to activate the adhesive by taking a paper towel and soaking it with lacquer thinner and then rubbing it on the exposed adhesive side. this will help activate the adhesive and make it bond stronger.

I recommend doing it in the garage, and taking some rubbing alcohol and wiping down the area the bullitt sidescoops attach to. then take a heat gun or a blow dryer and warm up that metal...activate your 3m double sided gray tape with lacquer thinner, then warm up the edges of the sidescoop where the tape goes, apply the tape, then make sure your tabs are on the sidescoop and firmly press it into the panel where it goes.

with the activated double sided 3m gray tape, these won't be coming off very easily...it will be tough for a thief to try and steal them, he will most likely break them trying to get them off, and it will also keep them from flying off at high speeds (which I have had this happen in the past).

also go pick up 6 new tabs from your local dealership! the old ones go bad after you remove them, and they dont hold as well...this is why I lost my previous scoop.

also you don't need to remove the interior panels to get the stock sidescoops off...you just pull the sidescoops towards the front or rear and they will pop right off.

That's the stuff, sorry didn't realize I was being dumb with my link above...:nonono:

Prob is a good idea to get new clips--mine seemed to still be tight but I am lazy sometimes...lol

Thanks for all the info! I plan on picking up the Bullitt Scoops pretty soon as well as a set of cobra side skirts. Off hand, does anyone know the part number for the clips or what they are referred to as?

I don't remember the part #, but just tell the parts guy at ford you need the 6 retaining clips for the sidescoops. they work for both bullitt and factory, so no biggie there.

hey man, there's a guy on SVTperf that sells ford oem stuff (Tousley i believe?), he works for a company so no scams, and gives great prices on skirts and such. I dunno about the bullitt side scoops, but i'm sure he can get em for you.

although i did find an unpainted set on ebay for 60 bucks the other day lol

I have a good ford connection here for the side skirts...I saw the scoops you were talking about but my friend said they were not OEM...said the OEM ones are plastic and those were fiberglass. Not sure

not sure what it really matters? as long as they fit and look good.

oem bullitt sidescoops are not going to make the value of your car rise drastically or even rise at all.

so why even take that into consideration?????

I just ordered a set of the Bullitt Side Scoops as well as a set of 03/04 Cobra Side Skirts from my friend at Ford. The side skirts already come painted from Ford...total for all the parts was $528. I've also ordered the 3M tape and an extra set of retainer clips for the scoops :D

stop by wal-mart and get a small can of lacquer thinner to activate that adhesive on your 3M tape.

Anyone know if there is anything special involved to install the cobra side skirts? do they just use the factory mounting positions? Any tape involved?

Thanks

unbolt the stock ones, bolt the cobra ones in their place...easy as pie.
