Bullitt shift knob

Ok guys have a problem here, last nite a guy gave me the Bullitt shift knob from his 1999 GT and I can't get it to line up where the shift pattern is lined up like it's supposed to be. Now my stock knob and the knob from my friend's 04 GT, I could get those all to line up fine.

Is there some trick to getting that Bullitt knob on?

Let me get this right. You can't get the shift pattern to run parallell with the car?

Are the thread patterns the same? Your not cross threading them? How far off is the pattern? You can't muscle it over?

Yeah, the shift patterns are the same, and the knob isn't cross threaded, I've taken it on and off about 4 times now. I've tried muscling it over but it just stops after 1/2 a turn before it should.

And like I said all the other knobs I could get to go on just right. I dunno, I'm about to just say screw it.

then just line it up without going all the way. it shouldnt be too loose.

I just put it on tight, who cares if the pattern is lined up for now, I know where the gears are.

Ok guys I talked to a friend of mine who had the same knob on his 95 GT, and he had the same problem, but when he went to his 98 GT, it worked fine. Is there some difference in the shifter levers?

When I get my Tri-Ax, will it line up then?

The Bullit knob I have never lined up on my stock shifter, but when I put it on my pro 5.0 shifter it lined up perfect.

What actuallt stops you from tightening the shift knob further? Is it b/c the threads on the shift knob stop, or b/c the theads on the shift lever stop?

You should put something in the hole of the shift knob that is slightly compressable, like a tightly folded piece of paper. That way when the lever hits the piece of paper, it will resist further tightening & fit snug. Just a thought, I have no idea if this will work. But it's free, unless you have to buy a ream of paper!!!! Use the thickest paper you can find, btw.
