busted cats

Ive got a 95 crown vic thats not really worth putting the money into new cats that just busted on one side i was wondering if anyone knew how it would run without them all together. I dont care about inspection its good until november and i planned on getting rid of it in a couple months anyways. Thanks.

If it's the 4.6 that has the 02's before AND after the cats, you will have problems. I think there might be a way around it though? May want to check around on a crown vic forum, or post over in the modular section on this site.

Theyre not terribly necessary. I took the cats outta my truck, (5.4) but shouldn;t be too much different. It stumbles a lil bit if i hold at one rpm for awhile but doesn't affect performance at all I actually get better mileage now. Also they make an O2 sim that just plugs into ur rear sensors and shuts off the light and makes the computer think they're doing their job... They're like $65 in Jegs. U gotta look close though it's in the 4.6/5.0L mustang part hidden in the exhaust section.

Well if it has oxygen sensors before and after the cats than you could take them of f, put straight pipe in and get simulators for the post sensor. You could always just take them off, hollow them out and reinstall and see if you get a code for the oxygen sensor and if you do get a simulator.

Thanks for all the help again. I should have looked a little further into it, dont ask me how it happened but one of the wires came off the coil and thats why it ran like it had no power and was popping and backfiring. I get a little discouraged sometimes and dont feel like investigating the problem right away :nono:
