My buddy is looking at a 1991 LX vert automatic. The car has 98,XXX and is completely original. Never wrecked or painted, no mods, it's bone stock. The seller wants $6,800 for it. It is in good shape, body is straight, no dings, a couple paint chips and the interior needs a few minor pieces, but mostly just needs to be detailed.

Is this car worth it?

91 lx value

I can suppose that it is a 5.0. $6800 seems high even if it was durn near flawless. Full service records with new tires, brakes etc!
Maybe I'm just cheap, but I found a 97 w/55,000 miles for the same price.
13 years and 100,000 miles is about the time that things just wear out.
Hinges, ball joints, upholstery, top, weatherstripping and the cumulation of interior wear that come with it are points to consider.
I found a 91 LX vert with a bad automatic transmission for $500.00!!
O.K. It was a 2.3 and was a quick sell case, but for a garage kept, never
smoked in car It was a steal even after you factor in a new tranny.
I do need to fix the trim on the drivers door as it has peeled where your arm rests.
Have your friend look at a few more similar cars to get his price range.
If there are flaws I always consider them as a worst case scenario.
Example: If you cannot hear the motor run...consider it will need a new motor
If they say the air cond needs recharging...consider cost of replacement.
If he is in a hurry..he will pay more. Shop a little!

Yah, it's a 5.0,
I think its a little high also. Problem is that he wants a vert and everything we look at is crap. Even in this price range, everything is beat or abused or piece milled together. Atleast this car is in pretty good shape. Plus its never been molested. The owner is not moving off the price. What do you think this car is really worth?

With that many miles, and still needing some work, that guy will never get someone to buy it at $6800. Cmon, it's a 91' for gods sake. Like mentioned above you can get a much newer car that will give you much fewer problems for that price.

I would say it's worth $5000 tops. If it was mint I'd say maybe $5500. I have an 88 vert with ~100k and I don't expect to get more than about $4000-4500 at best when I sell it. And I've got a 5 spd, GT with a ram air hood.

I would just make him an offer and sit back and wait, If he can get $6800 I feel sorry for the sucker who buys it off him.

If your buddie just wants a nice to cruise around in, the vert is awesome!! I had an 89 Notchback 5.0, but I love the convertible, and the three hundred or so pounds more are definitly worth it cruising.

Now as for $6800, no, that is just too expensive, seriously, unless this thing was in IMMACULATE condition, I mean nearly showcar condition, then I would say yes. I got my car for $5000, he was asking $6000, I told him $5000, and I got to keep the sweet stereo system, and he took it.

Have your buddie offer no more than $5000, if he says no, have your buddie leave his phone number with the seller, and tell the seller to call if he changes his mind and that you guys will be looking at other mustangs.

Good luck to your friend
