Well I finally found a 92 LX notchback 5L 5pd in Westport, Mass. The car looks super clean inside and out and everything seems to be in excellent condition. No rattles, leaks or noises has Ponys with mint tires and it's owned by a 55 year old man. He was asking 5500 and I got him down to $4000 cash. I'm going to pick up the car tonite is there anything else I should look for or pay attention to before I make the purchase? Thanks.

Check out the torque boxes. I just recently got my 92 Notchback, great feeling. I paid 4500, the guy wanted 4800.

where exactly are the torque boxes in comparison to the rear lower control arms. I have an idea where to look for them but with limited light and all I want to be sure that they are straight, correct? Also, what would be a bad torque box? Something rusted or twisted or looked like it was tampered with?

You have lower torque boxes and upper torque boxes. They are where the upper and lower control arms attach to the body at. The uppers are usually ok but make sure you check the lowers. Look for torn metal or welds that have seperated.

good find there! i too talked my cars previous owner down from 5500 to 4000 but mine wasnt in as good a condition as yours. I went into it though knowing that I really only cared about the shell and that it ran, everything else was going to get redone in time, and it has.

good job, enjoy BOTH of your coupes (im jealous!!!)

I picked up my 87 notch on october 9th of this year. Like the guy said above, all i cared about was the shell. It was a 4 cyl/5 speed strippy car with no power or a/c. Its a very desirable car for the swap. I came across it in the classifieds, said it didn't run. Asking $500. When i got there it looked like a basket case, sitting halfway in the woods. When i asked what he'd take for it he said $100. With that, i called the wrecker and had it dropped in my garage. So far she's stripped to a shell and we just shot the first coat of primer in the engine bay this morning
Hang on to these coupes, they are getting fewer and farther between every year!
