buying my bro a car.. V6 stang or Z71??

my little bro is 16 and is looking for a good vehicle. he had a 97 pathfinder that he totaled about 6 months ago and hasnt driven much since. i found a 94 Z71 with 106K fully loaded for $6500 and ths 6 banger stang click here. would the v6 be too fast (its funny to be saying that!! ) for a 16 year old with not a lot of driving experiance? the truck would be safer since it is bigger but also might be harder to drive b/c of its size. how reliable are the v6's?

Seriously though, if he's already wrecked a car, get him the slowest, safest thing possible. V6 stang wouldn't be to bad, and a truck might be too much vehicle (inspire confidence, do stupid stuff like driving around with people in the bed, etc.).

V6 stangs are somewhat reliable, they have pretty much the same wear/tear problems our cars do.

I think 6500 for a 94, whether it's fully loaded or not, and that many miles is crap. I would never pay that much for a truck.

Find him a little 4 cyl 2 door car for like 3000 bucks man. Thats what I learned on.

It's a lopped off v8 as someone else put it. If you're going to get him a v6 mustang you may as well get him a honda and save the insurance money.

Yeah get him a 5-speed civic or something like that. I don't think a v8 mustang is too much to handle for a 16 year old...I've survived. Then again, I have yet to crash too. $6500 is rape too.

my first car was a six banger stang, a 95. i couldnt kill that thing if i tried. had it for nearly 4 years before i got a gt. it sucked in the rain and snow, but thats just general mustang knowledge, not just a six banger. it was slow as hell, but the ladies liked it, haha. get him the stang, let the mod bug be born, and he might feel good about driving in a nice looking car, and learn to take care something he can appreciate.

I think that I would get him the stang ,it will still look good ,at 16 you dotn need to go very fast.......But then again ,I was 16 when i got my 01 GT

Get him a ranger... I have one for sale! A 4 cyl or even the 4.0 v6 is still slow, safe and hard to kill. Anything with a 4 cyl or a V6 truck should be just fine!

Don't get him anything that he can do a brake torque in, or ANY sort of drifting. Get him an automatic 89 Tempo 4 door with a broken parking brake.

we just went and looked at that v6. the car looked good but the pass door didnt line up right and the window would hit a little when it closed. can the door be aligned??? the car didnt look to be wrecked or anything like that.

we have already planned the first mods for it. the windows will be tinted along with the tail lights, than it needs clear corner headlights to replace the faded ones, and a chin spoiler and grill delete will finish it off.

Exact same situation here. I am not a stupid driver(most of the time) so if he is responsible then mustang is the way to go!

i dont think he would drive crazy. when he rides with me, i drive responsibly and always tell him to do the same. he does NOT need a GT but i think the 6er would be ok.

does anyone know how i can align the door so it will close right without the window hanging at the top?

I recommend a Honda Accord or a Toyota Celica. Quality wise, those cars are better than a Mustang. You can't go wrong with any year, and those cars get great gas mileage along with reliability. With the gas prices the way they are, it might be wise to go with a gas-sippin 4 banger. And of course they're not fast.

I just got my GT, and I just turned 19, and honestly it's too much power for a 16 year old, 17 year old, 18 year old, and even 19 year old. Hell, I used to yell at my parents for not letting me get a GT, but now I know why the grand marquis was a good start. I'm trying to get more responsible, but it's a whole lot of car. I think a v6 stang is the perfect combination of looks and power for a 16 year old.

I'd say go with the V6. The way my dad put it, he was fine with me getting a car that looks nice without being something that I would drive entirely too fast. Sure, I wish it was a GT, and i will have one sometime in a couple of years, but for now having a car that has respectable looks is good enough.

I know two people that had V6 Stangs and they drove them like F1 cars.

Sometimes its not the engine, but the name of the car that inspires people to drive crazy.

Not saying thats the case with your bro, but if you think it is be careful.

Ive had people my age start with gt's and some start with 6er's. Me and my friend both had gt's, his 94 with the 5.0 and my 02 gt and we both drove normally. He had a few freak things happen like his new cervini's hood flying up and people pulling out in front of him. But the people i know with the v6's both totalled them out within 6 months trying to race people. If he is responsible go with the stang, but that z71 is good for about 100k more miles. Ive seen the 350s last until at least 300k, my ole 5.0 truck is on 150 and never been touched yet. It all depends on the driver.
