How he'll handle his first car is 100% personality related. Hell, look at all the kids flying around in their parents' 4 door accords. If he's a good kid, get him the Stang.

Do not get him a big truck. Worst vehicle for a new driver to start with. As said above, big vehicles inspire confidence. Especially don't get him a Chevy truck, cuz Chevy truck drivers are 98% *******s ><.

I got a V6 Stang when I was 16. Got my GT 2 months before turning 18. Haven't wrecked either (knock on wood). If you've been a good influence on him, the Stang shouldn't be any problem at all.

I actually had a z71 tahoe with a 9inch lift as my first car...bad idea. It was good because it didnt go fast, but that was about it. Sucks gas, sucks to park, and not a very car IMO. Getting a stang is a much better idea.

I recommend a Honda Accord or a Toyota Celica. Quality wise, those cars are better than a Mustang. You can't go wrong with any year, and those cars get great gas mileage along with reliability. With the gas prices the way they are, it might be wise to go with a gas-sippin 4 banger. And of course they're not fast.

Trust me, just cuz the Mustang is a v6, doesn't mean it is worthless. I owned a '98 v6 for 7 years. I got it brand new when I turned 16. I put a lot of money into suspension, gears, intake, exhaust. Granted it didn't accelerate very fast, but it still would go over 120mph. It's not about how fast the car is, it's about how well the car handles and how the driver handles the car. I would go through auto-x tracks faster in my v6 than v8 guys just because it was set up better.

The v6 is just as good, if not better than the V8's. It has an awesome engine and the 4R70W auto tranny is just as bulletproof. I sold the car in Nov. '05 with 107,000 miles without one bit of engine/tranny trouble. That is even with neutral drops, redlining, and other stupid crap I did in High School.

Get your bro the Mustang. Then you can teach him everything you know about Mustangs.

BTW...a Mustang is a Mustang, regardless of what engine it has in it.

umm..no disrespect or anything....but why in the world would a v6 be better than a v8..its a mustang..v8 is the only way to go...of course a v6 with aftermarkt suspension will out handle a v8 stock.

I wouldnt buy a 16 yo kid a car anyways...especially if he already had a vehicle and totaled it. Usually when you have a car given to you it doesnt turn out that well especially at 16. I say let him buy his own vehicle thats what i had to do.

I was talking about the engine quality. Those 3.8's are pretty stout engines, they have been around forever and can handle a lot of abuse. We all know V8's are better for power and just about everything else, I thought that was a given. Also, if you set up a V6 Mustang and a V8 Mustang the EXACT same way, the V6 will out handle the V8 due to the balance of weight and weight transfer. The noses on the V8's are so damn heavy.
