well, my girl decided to buy a mustang gt the other day. So i took it out on a test drive. The first time the Trac Control was one when i mashed it but it still squealed 1st and 2nd. So i made sure trac cont was off the next time. I mashed it from a slow roll (5-10mph) in 1st gear. It spun all the way to 6000+rpms in first, when i shifted to 2nd and it continued to roast the tires and then bark them into 3rd. Mind you this was w/ 3 people in the car (me my girl, and the salesman). So i contacted the previous owner (3rd owner) and asked about mods. It had weld in flowmasters when he bought it and a timing adjuster, which he removed. He added an off-road x pipe (but later decided the no cats were too loud and welded some in) and 3.73 gears. (He also added a K&N filter but apparently a ford mech replaced it w/ a paper). I was talking to my buddy who used to have an 01 GT (SCT tuner, 3.73s, catback, and maybe a TB and UD pullies) and his GT barely spun in 1st. He now has an 04 mach1, which he says barely does what this gt does. He also said his buddy has a FULL bolton GT (cams, TB, exhasut, gears, tuner, etc) and his comes no where close to doing that. Can anyone please explain this to me?
Thanks,
Alex

My GT is no speed demon but I can easily spin the tires in first. I've also been able to spin the tires up to 5k in first gear. Look at my mod list to see what I have. Sounds like your gf has one fast mustang! She may have gotten a factory "freak". Seem like it would respond well to mods. Pearl.

I still have the stock gearing in my 99 GT, and I can smoke the tires on through 1st. I've got 275s also.

i dont know if if your coasting 10mph and drop the hammer and that thing spins all the way through.....my car dont even do that

i think its cause of the old, skinny 245 tires.

not to rain on your parade or nothing but its prolly the stock size tires. my non pi car will do it with 245/16's on it. With the big 295/18's it will chirp 3rd with my 4:10's.

but congrats on having the stang to drive as well pretty cool gf if ya ask me

Yip for a basically stock GT spinning in 1st gear is normal, spinning all the way through 2nd and into 3rd with a car full of people seems a little odd. With 3.73's that would have you spinning the tires while travelling at over 60mph

When I had 4.10's, full bolt-ons, full exhaust and VT stage 2's I could spin my 285 GS-D3's thru 2nd and partially thru 3rd. However, on stock rubber I believe that would be normal with those mods. My 3.73's spun like an SOB on 265's with full bolt-ons and full exhaust (minus headers)

3.73's plus crappy stock goodyears that are worn = being able to smoke tires in 3 gears.

My stock goodyears are nearing the end of their life and i can spin em up with 3.27's with ease.

SPinning tires is a poor way to judge power. Either slap it on a dyno or run it at the track.

My cammed fullbolton GT would jump sideways and lay rubber from a 40MPH punch in 2nd gear with 285s out back. 1st and second were almost useless @ WOT.
If thats all of the mods, then your car is as fast as everyone elses with simular mods. There are no freak GTs....your friends Mach will DESTROY you if he can even remotely drive.

Remember talk is cheap...people can say "yea my 9 second mustang only spins in 1st and 2nd....so since your GT does the same then its probably just as fast" . You just CANT determine power bases on that, just way too many things happening. Pavement type has a HUGE impact.

how do you guys spin through gears??? i ahve to try in order to do it and even then it wont spin all that much

if i take off well i wont spin at all...

plus i wouldnt be happy to be spinning all that much in a 3300lb car with 260hp... it shouldnt spin if driven right, not even my friends mach 1 does it with 40-50+rwhp on me

to spin = floor first gear all the way up. get it to the point that you are going to hit redline without letting off the gas.....keep it to the floor. then shift to second gear very fast, as fast as you can. dont be afraid to give it a little bit hard of a shift. (althought i dont know somtimes with the 3650) lol.

anyway, if you do this you will start spinning the tires. once they are spinning in second dont get off the gas. continue to push the pedal to the floor while still spinning and you will continue to spin through second. if you let off the gas for a second you will stop spinning.

BE CAREFUL!!! when doing this if you dont know what you are doing. if your car has enough power your back end will kick out and start to slide. so be ready for that.

i cant continue to floor it in second when i do this because i will start to loose it. the car wants to spin around way too much because of my power level and crappy tires.

^ And be sure that you dont overrev it....sometimes I have to feather mine through second so it doesnt go over 6000RPM or so.

To the other guys....get some power, then you wont have a problem spinning at alsmost anytime you want in 1st or 2nd.

1. the less gear you have the more the tires will keep spinning once they are spinning. example when I had the stock 3.27's in the rearend I could spin all the way through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. when going for 4th it was jsut too fast and unsafe and I was in a HUGE empty privately owned LOT.
2. There are some factory freak gt's they jsut seem to be far and few.
3. 245 17's spin like it's they're job.
4. take it to a track and get some #'s or a dyno although personally I prefer a track # it really tells the tale.

gears

It's the gears man. 3.73s will allow you to smoke the tires pretty much as long as you want. They make all the difference in the world. Also running high PSI on the tires makes them mad easy to spin.
