Has anyone else had problems with their Flowmaster Axle backs? I have a TERRIBLE buzz coming from both of my mufflers, and it's driving me absolutely crazy. At first I thought my clamps we're coming loose, and it was just a rattle, but then realized it was coming from inside the muffler itself. It sounds like something loose in the muffler.

Do you have the stock h-pipe or an o/r H or X Pipe? I know with an o/r H or X Pipe the mufflers will sound very raspy at a certain rpm range (1800 - 2500). If you don't then you could have a problem with the baffles coming loose inside the mufflers. I believe this may of been a manufacturing issue, but that was a few years back.

I have the stock H-Pipe on the car. I've had the mufflers on the car for about 3 years now and it just started a couple of months ago, and has gotten progressively worse. It's VERY prominent on start up and when in lower rpms, going through each gear. If I lay the hammer down on the accelerator the buzzing stops. I took the drivers side today and you can shake the muffler, and it sounded like there was trash in the muffler. I took water and compressed air to see if I could get it out. SEVERAL pieces of rusted metal washed out of it, but could not get it all out........AND the buzzing was still there when I put it back on.http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/images/smilies/frown.gif

My old MAC mufflers did that...I took them off and havent had an issue w/ any other mufflers...HOWEVER...MY FLOWMASTERS ON MY C4 VETTE MADE EXACTLY WHAT U ARE DESCRIBING...My exhuast guy said one the "walls" or baffles got loose (weld broke!?) and was vibrating like mad...

Unfortunately the welds on your baffles have let go. It was a known issues on early S197 flows. I went through 2 sets, and yes it is very annoying. It seems the robot that did some of the welds was setup wrong and didn't weld some of the baffles good enough. Call Flowmaster and tell them what is going on soon as you say 05+ Mustang GT they will know your talking about.
