All I did was bypass the smog pump with a shorter belt and capped the emmissions tube. At around 20mph or less, I hit on the gas and it picks up fairly fast, but if I am cruising around 40mph and hit the gas, it picks up smoother than before, but can't tell if I lost some speed or if I am just not use to the smoother acceleration. Any help would be great.

Anybody else experience anything like that?

oops, I guess I should have posted what mods I have.

pro-m intake (not sure what size)
bbk 65mm t/b
cobra intake
mac l/t
custom x-pipe (no cats)
flows
4:10 gears
smog bypassed

So are you saying it is slower? or you just cant tell???? Was the pump hard to turn when you took it off? When I removed mine it was a little hard to turn and my engine seemed to rev faster... Thats about all I could tell....

The "smog pump" is nothing more than an air pump to provide extra air to the catalyic converters so they can do their job of turning carbon monoxide and air into carbon dioxide and water. With no cats, you don't need it. Did you "chip" your computer to take care of the mods you've done? Many car computers today are looking for back pressure to properly adjust mixture/timing/etc.

aahh, definitely good point about the computer, forgot about that. I just got home from work and on the drive home, the car definitely did feel more responsive. I guess the computer just needed some time to figure out the air/fuel mixture. It does seem to rev faster now. thanks for the info. guys.
