C4 oil change question

I just removed the oil filter and a spring with some kind of a dowel pin came out. Now, i don't know wich side is up for the pin. Does the flat side goes against the spring or inside the valve body?

The face of the valve goes into the VB first with the spring on top.

btw, just to let ya kno, it's just transmission fluid, not oil

Second option....the small end of the metal valve goes in the spring to keep it located and it seals against the valve body dividing plate.
