Okay originally I was just going to build my AODE that I have in the car now, but yesterday I was talking to one of my friends down at the local tire shop and he was selling a C4 tanny off of his 66'(I think). He said he would sell it to me for $150. It has 133, XXX miles. He says it runs it just needs a good rebuild. I didn't know all the pros and cons of switching to a C4. I know it is a three speed and that it is a tough transmission. How does it do at the track and normal driving around town? If I get a positive response I will buy it in a couple days. Plus what goodies will I need to build the tanny with? And what do I need for the conversion?

Just did the swap on my car. I sold my T56 for a Trans King C4...billet servo, clutches, vasco input shaft, reverse manual valve body, transbrake....good for about 850hp, and I used a JW Bellhousing 157t and a JW flexplate 157t.

On the conversion besides dealing with all the shifter stuff (i removed my center console and put a new carpet kit in my car), but you can get a B&M Hammer shifter that will adapt to a C4 and will fit your console. You will need to make a plate to adapt from teh mount to the crossmember b/c the C4 mount is about 1.5in forward. I went with the badass Seatrab trans cooler as well. I'm using a B&M Pro Stick shifter also. I will have pics this weekend b/c I finished the swap two days ago.

How much of a difference can you feel? I would love to see some pics when you get some. Also how does the car feel when you are just driving around on the street. That is the only thing I am really worried about. What TC did you put in and what is the stall?

Well this is a manual valve body so I have to shift it all the time. I rarely drive on the street anymore...I'm a True Street car that is about 95% track time. I have a PI converter but I'm afraid that what they built will be too tight for me...it's a 3000 stall. But I'll give it a try for awhile before sending it back to get it loosened up.

What kind of shifter do you have? With the manula valve body what happens when you put in to drive. I am thinking about getting a hammer shifter so drive would be third gear. With that in mind would I be able just to drive around in third or is that bad.

You need to downshift and upshift like a regular automatic would. A regular C4 you wouldn't have a manually shift it. I have a manual valvebody which makes me shift.

I understand that the manual makes you do that and I know I would have to downshift and upshift like a regular automatic would. I just wanted to know what the car does if put into Drive(thrid gear). I know this is a dumb question. I just don't know what the car would do.

It like leaving in 3rd or 4th gear on a T5....so you'd need to go back down to 1st gear....just like a T5

94VIRGINIASTANG How much did it drop your 1/4 time by doing the swap. If I do the C4 I will go with an Art Carr or a PI with a 3000 stall and I will get a manual valve body and trans brake. How much do you think this will help my 1/4? Also how do you spin the tire with a trans brake?

I got to run it at the track once last year before they closed. But conditions were terrible compared to usual so I really couldnt compare the two yet.But it pulls just as good as the T-5,its easier to launch so far,and its concistent as hell. Before on drag radials and T-5 I ran 13.30s on 1.90s and the one time I did get to run the C-4 on drag radials it ran a 13.58 on 1.90s.I think with similar conditions it would run the same or better than with the T-5.I have no transbrake so im footbraking.Kinda wish I had got the transbrake. The tracks around here open next week so Ill be trying it again here in a couple of weeks.I cant wait cause im trying some different jets in my Zex kit.Tryin to see how close I can get to the 10s.If I hit 11.30s Ill be really happy.

I really didnt know alot about converters. When I ordered my kit PA asked about my combo and all, then they recommended what I should get.I like it over all, although I think it would be a little better if it was a little bit tighter for N/A.Its smokin with the bottle though.
