Recently put in a ron morris cable clutch setup with the T5 in the 66. Works awesome, however I noticed that the free-play feels a lot different than the mechanical Zbar. With the Zbar there was a definate point where the throwout bearing contacted the pressure plate, as I could manually flick the fork back and forth and hear it hit.
With the new cable style clutch linkage, I cannot really feel this free-play. I have the clutch adjusted so that it begins to grab a few inches off the ground, and rigged a spring from the fork to the transmission so that it pulls the fork off the pressure plate fingers (or so I hope).
Is the new style throwout bearing/fork assembly supposed to be in contact with the pressure plate fingers? It seems the stock clutch cables found in the mustangs with the T5 had a self adjusting mechanism.
If it helps, I am using the T5 bellhousing, T5 trans, 289 flywheel and clutch assembly. Everything works smooth, I'm just paranoid about the TOB wearing prematurely. I had it adjusted so that I could feel freeplay at the fork, and it would grind trying to go into gear. So I adjusted it a little more, and got it to not grind when going into gear from an idle. Should it be safe to assume that this is correct?
