Hey guys, I'm hoping I can get some opions here. I'm Looking to convert my 87 to mass air, and just trying to decide on the best CAI, TB and MAF setup. Current setup is:
Stock bottom end 302
TFS 170cc heads
SD friendly cam, which will be changed once I convert to mass air
Cobra intake with BBK underhood intake with 4"upr filter
1.7rr
adjustable FPR
Pullies, exhaust etc
I currently have the stock throttlebody. I was thinking 75mm MAF with 70mm TB, does that sound about right? I have a smoothed engine bay so I can't run a fenderwell intake, which i am now regretting. Do you think I should put a heat shield around the underhood filter?

Any advise is appreciated, thanks

That set up sounds pretty good. It's the smallest i would go with your mods. As for the filter I'm a huge fan of just getting it out of the engine bay altogether.

I would like to as well, except that I smoothed it all haha. So I guess I don't have many options as far as filter placement

Then yes a heat shield would be a pretty good idea. Maybe even integrate the stock airbox back into the set up. It was a factory cai.

I suppose I would have to make my own? I haven't seen any for our body style. Heat shield that is

So I guess I will look for a 75 mm MAF and 70mm TB. Anyone else have any input?

I recommend an 80mm Pro-m MAF and n/a power pipe to get it out of the engine bay. I'd measure it out and cut a hole(I know I know). Heat is an issue with an underhood sensor but also you can get some prop wash from the fan. This can cause some inconsistencies with the sensor. Anderson Ford and UPR make nice pieces. But if you're not going to do that at least put a shield in there. 70mm throttle body will be fine. It outflows the cobra intake anyway.

I don't know how I feel about cutting into all that. I have read about getting inaccurate readings from the fan, so I was hoping a shield would help. I would love to get it out of the bay as well but I don't like the idea of undoing all that hard work. You think an 80mm would be better for my combo?

75 or 80 is fine. Ultimately buy the biggest you can so you don't need to buy again later. Either one of those will work well. Just don't buy a C&L. Pro-m is a more consistent product.

Unless you're racing a 75mm from the jy will be more than enough.

Makes sense. Yea I don't want to mess with C&L. Seems like it could be a pain

94/5 gt. You should be able to find them under 50 dollars. Post a pic of your set up.

No kidding. I should also mention I have 19# injectors and planned on switching to 24#. Figured it was a good idea. So that MAF probably won't work then. I don't have any recent pics on my phone but here is one when I still had ported heads and stock valve covers

You don't need 24s with your mods. 19s will handle that quite easily. As far as a shield goes you can try to find one that's close to your dimensions and make it work or just fab your own. If it were me though a 3" hole saw will open that filler panel cleanly enough to run an intake tube through. I made my own out of silicone bends and aluminum turbo piping.

I figured I might be close to being maxed out with 19s. If I can stick with them that would be great, that way I can get a JY Meter. I guess I will do some thinking about cutting up the car

Should my stock fuel pump be good then? I was going to upgrade that with the injectors

I'm not 100% sure but I think the 94/95 meters are 70mm. Not a big deal either way and many have gone that route. As far as inj and pump goes...stock inj are probably to small and the pump definitely is. For around 350hp(which a tfs head-decent cam,etc should be around) you should run 24's and at least a 155lph pump. Again my advise is buy once. Buy a Walboro 255lph pump(around 100$) and a good meter-inj setup(I'd go 80mm pro-m and 24 or even 30's). The car will only use as much fuel as it needs and return the rest to the tank. You'll never "need" more fuel unless adding a blower etc at a later date.

The 94/95gt MAF is 70MM

Get rid of the U/D pulleys. They are not worth the 5 hp at 4000rpm in exchange for worse cooling and charging.

Any aftermarket CAI is really just for looks as the stock airbox is a factory CAI. Add a k&N filter and it will flow just as well as a fenderwell unit. ( full disclosure I have ran afermarket CAI's on all my N/A cars as they look better)

That's what I thought about injectors. I will be going with a custom ground cam. And the intake may be switched for a trick flow. That's not definite. But that's a pretty solid combo, and I assumed I would definitely need 24# injectors, and I planned on going with a 255 pump.
