Calling all AOD guys, Shift Points??

The 1-D-1 shuffle is not recommended because the valve body is not designed to do it. It will, mind you, but it's not good for it. The technical explanation is a bit much for my simple mind (and lazy fingers).

That may be. I talked to the transgo tech and asked him about it. He said to do the "shuffle" to hold it into gear. But this conversation was directed around their shift kits. So with the trango aod-hp kit they say shuffle it all day long.

My car is stock with a stock AOD. It is just a daily driver. I always leave it in D unless I am gonna be cruising above 55 for a long period. Then I have always just held the throttle steady at 55 and bumped the shifter into OD and it goes it shifts nice and smooth. I see where Mustang5L5 suggested letting off the gas before shifting into OD so I may try that and see if it is easier on the tranny.

Letting off the gas before grabbing OD? Hmm. Mine has bumped line pressure...but it shifts weird/thunks into Overdrive without throttle. With steady throttle, it will hit Overdrive too hard and bounce. Hasn't eaten it up yet and it's been this way for over a year now...but you can feel when it grabs Overdrive it slips out and then re-engages. That's why I give it MORE gas when it shifts.....these hydraulic trannies, boosts the line pressure and applies more pressure so the OD doesn't slip.

Yeah tried it on the way home mine definetly doesn't shift into OD smoothly if I let off the gas. Mine seems to shift best if I just hold the throttle steady and slap the shifter into OD you hardly feel the shift. Mine has the line pressure bumped as well though. I have never touched it , but just looking at my TV cable it seems to be adjusted almost all of the way tight! It shifts good and firm though and hasn't given me any problems in the three years I have had it.

So with the Transgo it will move the shifts up quite a bit? Right now my tranny is shifting at 4900RPM, thats really hurting my 1/4 mile times because im not even reaching the power band!! I would like my shifts at 5600 - 5700 rpm at wide open throttle, my kit cam with the high rev thing too, so that will be goin in!!

yeah the transgo AOD-HP shift kit with high rev gov will do that. 57-5800 cool and 54-5500 up to temp in D. OD drops the wot shifts points a bit. But you have to install the gov. Mine is set at full race, it's by no means harsh, nothing like the crap B&M puts out. you can do a search under my name, I've went into detail on how the kit acts in a couple different posts.

I was about to ask about B&M Trankspak, so I guess its *****? I have a 94 GT AODE(I think), what would be the ideal shift kit for me?

Thanks in Advanced

I personally wouldn't buy any B&M shift kit but that's just my opinion. My old B&M kit was junk. Hit's way to hard and would bark the tires at 2500 rpm shift with no gas. Sounds cool but believe me it gets old real quick not to mention it's hard on things. But that was with the AOD not the AODE. I would stick with Transgo or Baumann. No first hand experience with Baumann but I've heard others who like them. If you really want to go all out a Lentec Valve body would be it. Not sure you can go wrong I'd just stay away from B&M kits IMO.
