Greetings guys,

calling out all COOLING guru's-I need help. i thought-I use to be a cooling guru until-I git stupmed on this-WTF!!!!!!!!

When-pressure testing a cooling system, rather cap and rad, I seem to be losing 1lb within the system. I would lose 2lbs, until i bypassed my heater core, it dropped to only 1lb-But no visual leaks whatsoever!
and it seems that i have a "tink'Tink" metallic noises coming from the cooling system as well. I took out the T-stat temporarily to eliminate it, yet still have this noises coming directly from the T-stat housing and lower manifold, as well as the 2 water pump hoses and upper rad hose. its like vibrartion, thump, thump on the hoses itself. My water pump is a edlebrock hi-flo unit which was installed last year with my Fluidyne rad. i dont get it, why-I also gets lots of bubbles in the rad as well with T-stat, and i ran a Snap-on head gasket teats on the new AFR heads-which passed, no H/G leak. im really stumped here...
Funny thing, Once we pumped up the sytsem with air, (3 additional lbs) using the Stant rad rad/cap tester-the noises goes away completely, when you release the air, the noise comes back.... As well-as disconnecting the belt, noises gone, re-connect it-noise back again...WTF could this be, a bad Water pump/impeller????

All thoughts/ideas are welcome-please & thank you for your help!

Sounds to me like the most likely cause for the noise is due to bad bearings in the water pump causing the impeller to ungulate. Especially because you say the noises go away with the serpentine belt off, wich would take load off the bearings. If the nioses seem to be coming from the front of the lower intake manifold and t-stat housing the water pump probably needs to be replaced or rebuilt by edelbrock if under warranty.

Hey, regarding the noise issue, I have a super duper goofy thought. Do you have a spring in the lower radiator hose? Upon occasion, the spring has gotten sucked into the water pump. The vibration of the impellar hitting the spring could cause some goofy harmonics.

Guys-Thanks for the 411....

The water pump doesnt seem to be leaking at all. I have the chrome upper & lower radiator tube style hoses, So NO rubber hoses. Weird thing is-No leaks, I hhad a leaky heater coire, but bypassed it-So No leaks-Thats what stumps me.
or when we pressure test the system and pump air into it, The noises goes completely away, only to come back when pressure is released, and that is only 3-4 LBS above 16psi. Some weird ****. just ordered a Weiand Water pump from summit and another new rad cap-Moroso-So i guess-I will be seeing this weekend. It just torments me because i cant figure it out-WTF!!!!!

Thanks guys-Anthony
P.S. Any other ideas-are welcome.

Well-Guys,

We can eliminate the water pump. Just replaced it with a WEIAND W/P and it still makes the dreaded noises. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What else can this be???
I mean-Can it be a faulty AFR head??? or a bad head gasket, but not show itself from overheating or any other symtom of a bad H/G????
i mean, i never had this problem until i added the AFR's heads. Everything was the same E7's and all-car ran great and zero noises. Add the AFR's-Bammmmmm, noises.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, three threads about the same issue all togeather makes it hard to help.

Are you sure it's not the pressure tester? You very well could have some issues in this car. Maby you should do a leakdown and compression test. Are you loosing coolant as well??? This car has a problem which sounds simple, but yet is very hard to tell you what it is over the net. Pull your plugs and see if one shows signs of anything abnormal.

If all else fails you could always pull the heads, have the deck checked for level or have them leveled, and replace the head gaskets. Make sure you torqued the heads down in the proper order and with the proper bolts and torque setting. What head bolts did you use, and did you re-torque them after the specified amount of miles? Aluminum heads are very sensitive to warping.

yeah-i know,
but im really not looking to do that.....I used ARP head bolts, torqued them, re-torqued them and used fel pro 1011-2 that AFR calls for. Im stumped. And to boot, My buddy did the instalation and he is a crackerjack @ 5.0's-So i dont doubt his abilities. So-The only way, those heads are coming off (warranty) is if i get new AFR's-ya never know, myabe i got hit with a bull**** set, it could happen.... And my warranty is running out, I have yuntil June 6th-being AFR only warranties there heads for 90 days. This damn, God awful noise-has been with me since the day of installation 3/25.:bang:

MY guess is radiator cap. Try a new one...I use the kind that has a spring to close the vacuum release.

Good Luck, Don
Dude-

Did that 3X.... 2 pressure relase stant caps and a moroso non pressure type cap. no dice. Swapped 2 waterp pumps, (edelbrock & weiand) not your average generic pump, 2 Fluidyne rad's, 5 T-stats, 2 T-stat housing's... 3 fluid flushes and im about to swap out my ECT and upper rad hose from my current chrome one to a rubber hose.
So ive pretty much been there and  done that @ this point and im still lost.

hERE IS THE OUTCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the answer to the miserable 10 week ****ing problem is-a HEAD GASKET on backwards on the passenger side........
im proud to say-Its corrected, finished and done....... AMEN!:hail2:

how the heck do you install a head gasket backwards? did you guys do the head swap at 1 am or after a few beers? lol i'm glad you got it fixed.
