Also,did your old pick-up use a gasket to the pump flange? I saw some of Moroso's pick-ups actualy suggest brazing or welding the pick-up right to the pump. Though I had used it with a gasket and the two standard bolts no problems (this was a 351W).

Did you re-use your hardware (bolts,studs,ect.)? You should also torque,and re-torque your hardware a few times befor you button it up (rods for example,torque in 3 steps to final torque,break loose 90*,repeat,break loose 90*,full sweep to final torque). Make sure you use plenty of lube,and a good tachy one at that. And also,even if your buying a new pump,take off the bottom plate and clean it out with some mineral spirits,and a light coat of WD-40.
