I know the ins and outs of 302s as far as what cams are good for what but now that I'm going 460 I need to know how the game is played.

I do NOT plan on spraying.

How much is TOO much cam?
What is TOO mild?
What intakes work well with said cam?
This is a STRIP ONLY car.

Transmission is a C4 so I need to know what the engine is doing before I buy a torque converter with a stall that's way off.

My budget is about $2,500 including cost of motor. Getting swap parts from ebay for between $350-600 (auction not over yet.)

Thanks, Anthony

Best suggestion i an make for a cam is to phone comp cams 1-800 number and tell them what your combo is going to be. They will set you up with a sweet cam. Next suggestion is to not buy an out of the box torque convertor. Get one built specifically for your cars wieght gear engine yadda yadda yadda. Way better then high stall that are generic off the shelf jobby's. You are probably going to want a torker II intake. The latest Car Craft Mag has a section on 500+ hp engines. There is a 460 in there pick up the mag and look at that combo. Definetally give comp cams a call though.

There is too much still in flux with your combo to say "which" cam profile would work best....

Which heads?
RPM Range?
Flat tappet or roller?
Carbed or EFI?
Vehicle dynamics?

If you check this out, it may help you figure out what you need to get a camshaft designed...
