I am trying to identify what kind of cam I have and the specs on that cam. I have a part number only M6250A333. This is in a 1969 351W. This may be a ford part because it is on a ford dealer receipt from 1984.

Thanks.

My old catalog doesn't list an A333 cam but does list the A332 for the Windsor, you sure about the numbers? The A332 specs are .472/.496 lift (int/exh) and 214/224 duration @.050. (290/300 Advertised) 112 degree LSA. Doesn't list the overlap the overlap @.050 is only 5 degrees This sounds like a hot RV grind with a little more duration than most. The 112 LSA certainly doesn't help with an 11 to 1 ratio. You sure about the comp ratio?

Cut and paste from an FMS catalog...
Pressure building cam.
DH was dead on with the hot RV cam description.

I didn't build it, I bought it so I am just repeating what I was told. I have to believe the guy because he is a ford mechanic and he had this car for 21 years before he sold it to me in 2005. The part number ending in A333 is on a hand written receipt for 1984. The engine is bored .030 over, blanaced, solid cam, strengthened connecting rods, fil fit piston rings and then he has written "new pistons through ford motorsports 11:1 comp. I have tons of receipts from 84, 85 and 86 to show all the work that has been done. If you have an old catalog can you look these numbers up please. M6268A312 - gear set and M6500A302 lifter set. Is the gear set timing chain gears or rear end gears? Does the lifter number tell us anymore about the cam?

My catalog doesn't list an A312 timing set (that's what the 6268 denotes) it lists an A302 set. My catalog is a 2002 issue. It's still possible you have a different cam grind (or a misprint ? )

I found your cam... A333:
238-248 @ .050"
.512-.536 lift
112 LSA
5* advance ground in
.025" hot lash setting

Cool cam!

That's still a somewhat wide LSA cam though, wonder what the overlap specs are?

I come up with almost 17" vac at idle through the analyzer.
It is not as small as we thought, but it doesn't have much overlap.

I think he ought to run straight 93, then back off the timing till the pinging stops and see where that is before doing anything else. Also see what the fuel mixture is too. Might help to richen it up. Then try colder plugs. All this won't cost him much more than time.

Thanks for the info. Where did you find the specs for the A333? Is it an old cam not made anymore? Do I have the right set up or what needs to change? The car runs good it just likes a lot of octane and a lot of timing. I just want to make sure I'm not doing damage by giving her what she wants, 40+* of timing and average octane of 101.

What he said!
See if you can tune out it's need for octane.

I especially like the part about checking the plug heat range that you are using.
That could account for alot if they are on the hot side.
